Here’s the reason the Love Is Blind cast has ditched their iconic gold cups for season eight

The gold cups used in Love is Blind have become one of the most instantly recognisable parts of the show – you know which program you’re watching when you see them come on your screen. However, in Love Is Blind season eight, the gold cups have often been switched out for cans instead. Many viewers think this was an editing error on the producer’s part, but there is actually a reason behind the change.

Here’s why the contestants have canned drinks in the pods

Love Is Blind can contain product placement, meaning the cans are most likely a sponsored drink. Although, nobody seems to be doing a good job of putting the front labels in view of the camera. Perhaps we’ll get a better view of the can once the contestants are out of the pods.

Why are there gold cups in the first place?

The creator of Love is Blind, Chris Coelen, explained why they chose the gold cups for the show in the first place. He said: “I don’t know. It’s something I like. When you turn on the show, you know it’s our show. It’s a very authentic, really true following of these people’s journeys, but I like the fact that we have this sort of connective tissue with that in a really light way, it’s fun.”

However, according to Food52, the reason gold cups are used is because they let the editors of Love is Blind edit scenes together without revealing how much liquid has been consumed. This means viewers can’t tell how much time has passed between shots since they can’t see any liquid in the goblets. It’s all very clever indeed!
