Move over Valentine’s: How to best celebrate Galentine’s Day with your Cardiff friends
From hiking at sunrise to a themed bar crawl, here are a few ways to celebrate this Galentine’s
Whether you’re loved up or single, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching – but let’s not forget that Galentine’s is just as important.
Setting aside time to appreciate your friends (especially the single ones) during the month of February is a great idea.
However, as we know that for students, funds may be low, so we’ve compiled a list of some budget-friendly activities to celebrate Galentine’s Day with your Cardiff friends.
Wine glass painting
If you’ve never tried wine glass painting before, it’s an absolute must. The chances are you have some glasses laying around waiting to be painted, whether they are wine glasses or not. All you need is some acrylic paint, a bit of inspiration, and your friends.
Put on your favourite film or music, light some candles, and pour yourself a glass of wine or hot chocolate, whichever best suits your Galentine’s best.
For design ideas, Pinterest is a great place to start with ideas such as hearts, colourful fruits, flowers, or bows. Choose your favourite style and start painting.
Walking
Cardiff is close to some beautiful scenery and a sunrise hike, or waterfall walk might be a great way to celebrate Galentine’s. Get out of Taly or Cathays and soak up some of that fresh Welsh air. You must just find that love is in the air.
Most Read
An early climb up Pen-Y-Fan to catch the sunrise with a flask of hot chocolate or a day trip to the Four Waterfalls Walk trail in Ystradfellte are just two of many outdoor activities surrounding Cardiff. If you have access to a car, this idea could be a perfect way to celebrate outdoors with your friends.
Pizza making
Whether you want to challenge yourself to make a base or buy one, making heart shaped pizzas is a fun activity to do with friends. Get everyone to bring one item of topping as a money saver and start from scratch, making pizza’s with your favourite toppings.
Finish with a glass of wine or a good film and it’s a perfect Galentine’s night in.
Bring a board night
If you and your friends love a themed night then “bring a board” might be the best way to celebrate Galentine’s on a budget.
Each person brings a board filled with a different type of food or drink. Think nachos, charcuterie, dessert or cocktail making boards, the possibilities are endless.
Themed bar crawl
A themed bar crawl around Cathays or in town could be the perfect for you and your friends to celebrate Galentine’s. Although a bit less budget friendly you can still make it work without breaking the bank.
A fun idea to elevate the crawl could be to have each person choose a different bar to go to and decide on a “rule” to follow. This could be “someone else orders for you”, “let the bartender deicide” or even just “your favourite drink”.
So whether you’re rising early to catch the sunrise up Pen-Y-Fan, or heading out for a themed bar crawl, Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating your friends. You don’t need a big budget to make it special, just good company, and maybe a heart-shaped pizza (or two). Grab your friends, pick your favourite activity, and make this Galentine’s a good one.
