Fire blazes at student accommodation construction site in Lancaster as firefighters respond

A major fire has broken out at the site of flats under construction on Caton Road

A major fire has broken out on a student accommodation building site on Caton Road in Lancaster.

The blaze began at the site just after 1pm on Saturday, 8th February.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service stated that six engines are combatting the fire, as well as urging all those nearby to keep doors and windows closed.

Lancashire Police is also in attendance to assist with both direction road closures. The service said: “[The fire] has resulted in numerous road closures: Cable Street from Sainsbury’s towards greyhound bridge, Parliament St (both directions) and Back Caton Road are currently all closed.”

Furthermore, police and fire services have urged all to avoid the area.

The construction site has been an ongoing project to build a student apartment complex on the Parliament Street/Bulk Street area, according to locals.

According to witnesses, the fire seemed to be contained just after 2:10pm, with emergency services still in attendance.

It is unknown at this time if anyone was present at the site during the outbreak, or if anyone has been injured.
