Breaking: Lancaster University Students’ Union cancels 2025 Summer Ball

Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU) has cancelled the 2025 Summer Ball, according to an email seen by The Lancaster Tab.

In an email sent from LUSU President, Cerys Evans, to all college JCR members, LUSU shared the decision to cancel the ball due to concerns over cost.

According to the email, the Students’ Union believed that “every version of the budget failed to deliver value for students.”

Cerys stated that “summer ball expenses have shot through the roof while the student budget stretches even thinner.” The email, shared below, added that for the 2025 Summer Ball be the “same event” as last year’s ball, “ticket prices would have to more than double.”

Last year’s Lancaster University SU Summer Ball tickets were priced at £12, plus a booking fee.

After concerns over students being able to afford this increase in ticket prices, LUSU reportedly made the decision to cancel 2025’s event.

“We don’t want to put on an event that most students can’t afford,” Cerys said, “especially during a cost-of-living crisis when we know that so many students are already making difficult decisions every day.“

She added: “We are so gutted and we know that many students will be disappointed as well. We are still trying to work out if there’s something smaller we can do [to] celebrate the end of the year and value for students remains a top priority.
