Hang on, how are the Bala crime family in Netflix’s The Night Agent all related to each other?

The mysterious Bala family are the main villains of The Night Agent season two. Here’s a rundown of exactly who they all are, and how they’re related to each other. I really need a whole binder of notes to keep track of what’s going on in this show.

Viktor Bala

He was once the leader of his country, but when he felt his control was slipping, he started using nasty chemical weapons on people. Exactly how he came to get the chemical weapons is a big part of the show which I won’t spoil here.

When season two of The Night Agent starts, Viktor Bala is in prison in The Hague in the Netherlands, waiting for his trial. The Night Agent never actually specifies the country the Bala family are from – it’s all deliberately a bit vague and fictitious. Viktor is played by Dikran Tulaine, who was in The Walking Dead.

Tomás Bala

Tomás deliberately went by his mother’s surname in order to distance himself from Viktor. He wasn’t completely sold on being a villainous warlord when he was eleven, so he went to a fancy British boarding school. This is why he has a totally different accent to the rest of his family.

He’s now trying to win back his father’s approval. He’s cashing in favours with pretty much everyone he’s ever spoken to, in case it helps with his father’s trial.

Markus Dargan

Aka Enzo from The Vampire Diaries. So, Markus is the son of Viktor’s sister. Markus’s mother was killed when he was a kid, so he went to live with Viktor and Tomás. He trained as a military leader. Markus sees Viktor as a father and is really loyal to him (despite the war crimes and everything).

Markus pops up in season two, episode three. He makes quite the entrance by killing a load of soldiers.

Tomás feels insecure that Viktor prefers Markus to him, which motivates a lot of the choices he makes.

Sloané Killory

This character is played by Elise Kibler. She’s a boujie British socialite, and Tomás Bala’s girlfriend. Sloané thinks Tomás’s family is toxic (fair enough, honestly) and is constantly trying to convince Tomás to cut ties with them. It doesn’t exactly work out.
