Did Squid Game just announce an entire ‘Cinematic Universe’ with four spin-off shows?!

‘Squid Game 1987’ sounds SO good

People are going crazy after an image surfaced online showing an entire Squid Game “Cinematic Universe” with loads of spin-off shows – but we’ve got some bad news.

The picture shows all kinds of cool additions coming before 2028 including a “Squid Game USA,” “Squid Game World,” “Squid Game 1987” and “Squid Game 28th”.

It’s like Squid Game’s version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with four sequels that delve into the history of the games which have been going on since 1988.

However, sadly, it looks like this one’s fake. A quick reverse image search shows that the picture has been shared around social media loads of times.

But, there is no link back to an original post from Netflix, so we can assume a random internet user made the image and shared it online to trick people.

Another picture is also going viral that shows the “Cinematic Universe” on a big screen with someone taking a picture of the slide.

It’s made to look like a leak from a secret Squid Game presentation, but appears to just be an annoying bit of fake news.

The Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk did recently tease a spin-off of the dystopian thriller, so the “Cinematic Universe” seems to be a reaction to that.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “If the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.”

He said he’d like to explore what happened in the three years between season one and two in a sequel.

“One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. There’s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing?”

“When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything,” the director concluded.

So, a Squid Game spin-off could be on the cards in the future, but the “Squid Game USA” and “Squid Game 1987” are sadly just fiction.
