Right, here’s the actual reason Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds skipped the Golden Globes

Ryan Reynolds was nominated for an award

The 2025 Golden Globes awards took place on Sunday, though Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds were notably absent from the red carpet and sit-down dinner despite nominations.

For what seems like decades we have watched Blake Lively and It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni exchange blow after blow. That all came to an explosive climax last month when Blake Lively filed a legal complaint alleging inappropriate behaviour on Justin’s part. After being dropped by his management team and having a feminism award removed, Justin responded with his own lawsuit.

Though many people on Twitter assumed Blake and Ryan ditched the Golden Globes because of the legal battle, turns out that might not have been the case. Here’s what we know.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were never attending the Golden Globes

Both Ryan Reynolds and Marvel co-star Hugh Jackman were up for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award for their roles in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite having tough competition in the form of Alien: Romulus, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Gladiator II, Inside Out 2, Twisters, and The Wild Robot, Wicked ultimately secured the prize.

According to Deadline, a source said that the couple was never going to attend the 2025 Golden Globes and that the decision had been made long before the lawsuits dropped.

Though others on Twitter suggested they might have skipped the awards show to avoid Nikki Glaser’s cutting jokes, she too understood the gravity of the situation and stayed clear of the topic.

“I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” she earlier told Yahoo Entertainment. “I also don’t want to give his name any — I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have been approached for comment.
