Notts Talk to Tabitha volume eight: Happy holidays hardworkers

It’s been a slog but we’ve got there in the end

Hello my little Tablets. We’ve just about made it to the end of another term. While the unlucky few have somehow still got deadlines before Christmas, most of us can now take a slight step back in preparation for the holidays, ready to come back and do it all over again next year. Let’s jump into our final query of the year!

‘I’ve got so much work to do over the break. I’ve got no idea how I’ll have any fun at all :(‘ – Hard Slogger

Oh Slogger. I feel your pain.

Let me give you the low-down on how I plan to tackle the upcoming break, and hopefully this will resonate with you in some way.

Firstly. Afford yourself some time to rest and relax. It is, after all, the holidays.

There’s no point working yourself to the bone over the break, just to come back and do the same next term.

Avoid the burnout by working smartly. I’ve always found that giving myself little, regular breaks over a day of work helps me stay motivated and keeps me sane.

Besides, there’s only so much time you can spend working over the winter break anyway. Spend time with your family, if you can. That’s what this holiday is really for.

Secondly. Make a clear, organised plan as to how you’ll tackle each piece of work over the break.

Factor in time for yourself as I’ve just mentioned, as well as your job if you have one. It can be helpful for some people to have a visualisation of what the next few weeks will look like.

Thirdly. Try and find some kind of schedule from day-to-day. Christmas is a very busy time of year, but it can be negotiated smoothly by living in rhythm.

For example: have a relatively consistent wake-up time, morning routine time, get on with the day, and wind down properly in the evening.

That being said – if this doesn’t work for you, then that’s okay! Everyone works differently. Don’t feel the need to fall in line with a schedule that may not work for you.

Recognise what you need to be productive and ensure that you meet those needs over the winter break.

Keep slogging through, Slogger. We’ll see you on the other side. And to all the faithful Tabitha readers, have a very merry Christmas. I’ll be back in the new year with more to get you through dry Jan.

All my love,

Tabitha xx
