Notts Talk to Tabitha volume seven: Dealing with deadline season
Notts students are bored of the dating advice. Let’s get serious…
Once again, we find ourselves at the weekend, loyal Tab readers. December is just around the corner. Christmas is not far away, but many a student will now find themselves in the quagmire of the pre-Crimbo deadline season. Here are some tips to help get you through.
‘Deadline season is crushing me, what do I do?’ – Jamshed
Hello Jamshed! Thank you for writing in.
It’s a horrible time of year, for many reasons. The weather is baltic, the sun never shines and the deadlines are piling up. Nothing I say will change these facts, but I can at least offer some advice to get you through to the end of term.
Firstly, do your best to keep on top of the workload. Now is the time to be proactive. It’s much easier said than done, but it’s a necessity as a university student. Create the Winter Arc playlist and get jiggy with it.
Don’t bury your head in the sand and pretend it’ll all go away, because it won’t. Stay diligent and hard-working and you will get through just fine.
However, don’t start feeling down if a day hasn’t quite gone to plan. It’s inevitable that you’ll be more or less productive on any given day, and dealing with that positively is important, rather than letting it stress you out. Keep on keeping on.
Secondly, reward yourself for hard work! Keeping yourself incentivised is a great way to stay motivated during long sessions behind a laptop.
Keep a small bag of sweets nearby, or buy yourself a small treat after a heavy day hitting the books. It’s the little things like this that will help you through the horrors of deadline season.

Finally, keep yourself well fuelled. Eating, drinking and sleeping properly are a must for staying sane in these trying times. Refill that water bottle, read a book before bed, and cook yourself a decent dinner. It makes all the difference…
Best of luck, Jamshed. We’re all rooting for you.

‘Just made a chicken wrap x’ – Slinger
My goodness, Slinger. You’ve read my mind!
As I just mentioned, eating properly is essential to beating the winter blues. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been grouchy and moody for no apparent reason, just to have some scran and immediately feel much better.
Congratulations on your chicken wrap. It’s a true staple of student cuisine while retaining its fan-favourite status. There was nothing better than coming home after school and your parents telling your it’s fajitas for tea. What a winner.
Keep up the good work.
