Ranking Lana Del Rey album titles by how hilariously Lana Del Rey they are
She just announced a new one and I’m ready to make it my entire personality
There are certain hallmarks that make Lana Del Rey music Lana Del Rey music. I am a staunch eye-rolling defender to the death of those inexperienced ears who claim all her music sounds the same, or that all her music is depressing – a very surface level take on her discography. And yet still, she has hallmarks that make her music intently recognisable – and one of the funniest memes of recent Lana Del Rey is the quip of branding a random sentence “new Lana Del Rey album title.” And since Lana Del Rey just gave us a new album title, what better time than to do a ranking of all her album titles by the criteria of how Lana Del Rey they are! Bliss.
Let’s get into it.
10. Paradise
Sort of an album, sort of not – but either way, Paradise is the least Lana Del Rey album title of all her album titles in this ranking. Not that she always makes sad music – but there’s something too simple and chirpy about it. It’s also oft forgotten as it’s more just a reissue of the Born To Die title which obviously is much higher up the list.
9. Lust For Life
The first album cover where Lana Del Rey was beaming a full toothy smile on the cover – not everything on this album is particularly filled with a lust for life, but the title is certainly striking. Especially in comparison to her debut’s famous name. Suppose it comes towards the end because nobody really associates this energy with Lana generally.
8. Blue Banisters
Most Read
Very Lana in the sense of the fact it’s just a random object that when you really deep it and know the context of the title track of the album, is a really moving metaphor about healing and moving on from a chapter in your life with a fresh coat of paint for a new era. If you don’t know that though, it’s just some stairs.
7. Honeymoon
Lana Del Rey is a romantic and what is more romantic than the dreamy, lovesick bliss of a honeymoon? Not much. But there are more album titles on this ranking that are Lana Del Rey at her Lana Del Reyest.
6. The Right Person Will Stay
View this post on Instagram
The brand new Lana Del Rey album title to hit the canon – and it’s drama. It’s cinema. It sounds a bit like one of those reality TV shows companies are churning out to try and get a whiff of The Traitors success. Quite a determined title from Lana Del Rey, whose records usually have a more wistful and pondering vibe to their titles. It still feels Lana-y though.
5. Norman fucking Rockwell!
Naming your album after one of the great dead American poets and shoving an f bomb and an exclamation point in the mix is soooooo Lana. At this point this album and title are so iconic that I thought fucking was his Norman’s god given middle name.
4. Ultraviolence
A dramatic word taken from A Clockwork Orange filled with angsty and doomed tales of love and, err, violence – too Lana to cope I fear. A title for the ages.
3. Born To Die
Nothing signals your arrival to the music industry and domination of highly influential sad girl-core than the title Born to Die – one so iconic and famous it’s hard to imagine it not being the first thing someone thinks of when Lana Del Rey is mentioned.
2. Chemtrails Over the Country Club
Pure cinematic poetry – bliss. If someone said this title to you you’d know in one second who the record belonged to. Only one has topped it in this ranking of Lana Del Rey album titles, and you all know which one…
1. Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
A billion words long. Sentence case. A random question. Doesn’t roll off the tongue at all. Hardly any nice way to abbreviate it. Must be a Lana Del Rey album title. Truly the most Lana Del Rey thing she’s ever done is name this album. It makes me laugh that she had the consideration to shorten the word boulevard even though the title already takes half an hour to say out loud. Icon. The day it’s topped in sheer random obnoxious length will be legendary.
