Let it snow: The Russell Group unis with the most snow days each year

Number one isn’t in Scotland and I’m shook

Hallelujah, there is snow in the UK today. It’s now compulsory for all UK uni students to skive lectures, ditch essays and frolic about campus making snowmen (until it all melts at about midday and they run out of reasons not to work). Some students will have to make the most of the snow more than others. The amount of snow days at different Russell Group unis varies drastically.

Surprisingly, the Russell Group uni city with the least snow days each year is Cardiff. This feels so rogue, because I swear that having rubbish weather is Wales’s main personality trait? Cardiff gets the third most rain out of all the Russell Group unis. Apparently, all places near the coast in southern Wales benefit from the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream. This keeps these places warmer than you’d expect.

This data all comes from the Weather Atlas. It refers to the average amount of days of snowfall which each city with a Russell Group uni has got over the last 30 years.

So, here are all the Russell Group unis ranked by the average number of snow days they are blessed with each year:

24. Cardiff University – 3.1 snow days

23. University of Exeter – 4.0 snow days

22. University of Southampton – 4.5 snow days
