Here are the top five things to do during winter as a Bournemouth Uni student

The weather may be getting colder but there is still plenty of fun to be had in Bournemouth!

| UPDATED

As the winter chill rolls in and the bikinis and suntan lotion go back in their drawers until next summer, many of the popular spots for Bournemouth students to hang out are getting colder.

Luckily this town is packed full of fun activities in the winter, so there are still plenty of places for you and your uni besties to hang out and have fun!

Here are five things you should absolutely try this winter as a Bournemouth Uni student:

1. Find a pub quiz

Whether you are entering to have a laugh with your friends, or you’re in it to win it, a pub quiz is always a great night out. Luckily there a plenty on offer around Bournemouth, so get a team together and take part.

Student bar, Dylan’s, on Talbot campus hosts a quiz night every Monday from 7pm, offering cash prizes and free shots. If you don’t fancy a night on campus then O’Neill’s pub in Bournemouth Town offers a very popular quiz with students, every Monday from 9pm.

2. Pottery painting

If you are looking for a nice, relaxed activity (or are short on personalised mugs) then an afternoon of pottery painting is a great treat for you and your friends. Take a trip to All Fired Up in Bournemouth Square for a day of lunch, coffees and painting. Or if you are feeling bold, they offer taster sessions with clay so you can attempt to make your own ceramic. Prices for ceramics begin at £8.

3. Play some games

There are plenty of bars in Bournemouth that offer a side of games alongside drinks, so you can ensure the evening is jam packed with fun.

Brewdog, in Bournemouth Square, has a selection of board games so you and your friends can get super competitive with Monopoly and craft beer. And they even host parties for your dog, so your furry friends aren’t missing out on the fun. Or, head next door to Boom Battle Bar for a spot of karaoke. Whether singing is one of your many talents, or just something you practice in the shower, there is plenty of fun to be had when booking out a karaoke room for you and your friends. Boom also offers plenty of other games like axe throwing, darts and beer pong.

4. Head to the arcade

If you are feeling competitive but the pub isn’t for you, then the arcade on Bournemouth Pier is a great day out. There are plenty of different games inside that will entertain you and your friends. Have a go at winning one of the cuddly toys, playing whack-a-mole, or take a chance at the basketball machine. Or perhaps the 2p machine is your calling.

5. Bournemouth Christmas Winter Wonderland

Soon Bournemouth is going to be decorated and ready for Christmas. If this is your first year in Bournemouth then you are truly in for a magical treat, as Bournemouth Town doesn’t fall short on activities for you and your friends to get into the Christmas spirit. Kickstarting on November 14th, you can tour the market stalls for gifts and festive foods. In the Alpine lodge, you can enjoy drinks with your friends, and you can even have a go at ice skating in the Lower Square Gardens.

So, dig out your woolly jumpers and head into Bournemouth Town to enjoy some of these cosy winter activities.
