Why TikTok has decided you can test a man’s worth through the Dorito theory
Human psychology at its most complex
TikTok has the latest method to sort out your love life – and it involves crisps. The Dorito theory from TikTok will help you sus out who is a f*ckboy and who is long-term relationship material.
The internet’s logic is that Doritos are super addictive because they’re *gasp* not very healthy. The crisps will never leave you feeling full and satisfied in the way eating, like, a bowl of lentils and greenery would. So then you subconsciously start eating more, because your body is chasing the feelings of satisfaction which you’re probably never going to get from Doritos. With me so far?

TikTok users are convinced they need to purge everything like Doritos from their life – things which are addictive but unfulfilling. This includes relationships which are fun but not fulfilling, or, er, spending so much time on TikTok. Ah, the irony. People are labelling their mediocre situationships as “Doritos” which need expelling from their lives.
The Dorito theory has a whole other level, too. So, apparently people who eat loads of Doritos are prone to other Doritos-type behaviours – more things which are addictive but unfulfilling. They might be lacking self-control in general, or value stuff that’s fun for a moment over stuff which is good for them in the long term.
Basically, if your boyfriend eats a whole bag of Doritos by himself, he might be more likely to waste lots of time on social media or at parties instead of spending time with you. Ladies, if he eats Doritos, he might be cheating on you.
@mysty4now a lot of us out here dating doritos though… just saying 😉 (or at least have in the past) #dating #datingadvice #foryou #foryoupage #advice

Weirdly, there might actually be some sciencey logic behind the Dorito theory from TikTok? A 2018 study found that people can get addicted to having flings because the dopamine reward system in our brains is triggered by love, in the same way as its triggered by accomplishing quick goals, or getting fast enjoyment from something low effort – such as eating Doritos.
I will be taking this as evidence that TikTok isn’t mad at all and that Doritos are a totally valid reason to dump someone.
