Uni hits back at claims two of its students dressed as P Diddy and baby oil for Halloween
San Diego State University has condemned the ‘deeply offensive’ costumes
San Diego State University has hit back at claims that two of its students were dressed as P Diddy and baby oil for Halloween. The two students have been at the centre of attention online after taking inspiration from the recent P Diddy allegations for their Halloween costumes.
The man dressed as P Diddy wore makeup that left him with blackface, and a dark blazer and bowtie. The woman next to him wore a pink hat and shirt and had a sign that read “Johnson’s Baby” in reference to the baby oil brand.
San Diego State University told The Tab: “The use of blackface and any actions making light of sexual assault are deeply offensive and have no place in a respectful, caring community. We are deeply concerned about the actions depicted and understand the gravity of how this may impact others, including members of our community.”
The university also mentioned it had received “confirmation” that the person who posted the visuals was being “misidentified as one of the individuals in the photo” and warned against the “harmful” nature of misinformation.
According to the spokesperson, the people in the photo are “not confirmed SDSU students” and their team is “working to confirm additional information” which will include the location, names and affiliations of the individuals involved.
“Any behaviour that stereotypes or seeks to harm people based on race or ethnicity and disregards the severity of sexual assault directly contradicts our shared university values and undermines our efforts in support of inclusion and a sense of belonging for all,” the university pressed.
