Dumbledore actor’s son savagely roasts new Harry Potter TV reboot: ‘Leave them alone’

He’s just as floored as we are

We’ve all heard the news that a Harry Potter television reboot is in the works, and the reactions have been very mixed. Many Harry Potter fans are pretty unimpressed at the idea of a new reboot replacing the original films, and Jared Harris, son of the original Dumbledore actor, feels the same way.

Jared Harris, who you’ll definitely remember from Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes or Poltergeist, is the son of Richard Harris, who played the original Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films before passing away at 72. Jared followed in his footsteps as an actor and has had some very notable roles.

He spoke to The Independent about many of his films, but was of course asked about the reboot and was very quick to share his opinion on the new series.

Firstly, the interviewer asked him if he’d be interested in playing Dumbledore in the Harry Potter HBO reboot, to which he quickly said: “No, thank you,” before the interviewer could even finish his sentence. He really didn’t sound keen to get involved.

But that wasn’t the end of it – he also added “I mean, why do it? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic – leave them alone.” Controversial maybe, but I think many would agree.

The interviewer explained there would be 10 episodes to cover each book, and he looked pretty exasperated at the news.

He said “I mean, that’s a lot of storytelling,” but it actually makes sense given that a key complaint of the movies was a lot of the story elements from the books that the film producers didn’t explore. Maybe there’s hope for the TV reboot after all.

The Harry Potter films are available on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news, drops and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
