Jenna Ortega responds to the wild rumour she was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp

Jenna Ortega has finally given a damning response to the quite wild rumour that she was allegedly in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp. Depp is 40 years her senior, mind you – Jenna Ortega is only 21. The rumours circled online in late 2023, and Jenna Ortega has never addressed it before but spoke out about how ridiculous she finds it this week in a new interview.

In a bit for Buzzfeed and their puppy interview series, Jenna Ortega spoke about the rumour for the first time ever and did not hold back. She is currently promoting her new film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and was asked by the publication what the wildest rumour she’s ever heard about herself is. “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to leave us alone. It’s so insane to me. I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that.

“Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that was pretty hilarious,” she added. Jenna also said that actor Richard E Grant once asked her about it, saying “He came up to me and he just said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’ and I laughed, because I don’t know that person.”

Where did this even come from?

The Jenna Ortega and Johnny Depp rumour started in August 2023 after a Deuxmoi post, with NME reporting on it and claiming a quote from Jenna, that has now been deleted, but read “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”

Both NME and HuffPost also published a statement from Johnny Depp representatives about the rumour, saying he “has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever.”

“He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
