The Boys creator reveals Soldier Boy’s motive for season five and it’s looking BAD for Butcher
This is what his big return in the season four finale is building to
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has just revealed what Soldier Boy is going to be doing for his proper return in season five, and it sounds explosive. For those somehow not in the know, The Boys ended season four by going full MCU with a mid credits scene in the finale that revealed Jensen Ackles’ return as Soldier Boy – and the big reveal that he didn’t actually die in his showdown with Queen Maeve at the end of season three. Until now, we actually had no clue what Soldier Boy would be doing when he came back to the show but the answer is finally here. Perfect way to get you excited for season five – which isn’t coming out until 20-bloody-26.
Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Eric Kripke shed more light on Soldier Boy returning and what it will mean for season five and his son, Homelander. “You know, what we realised was we really hadn’t explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy,” Kripke says. “There’s a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship.”
But it’s not just Homelander that the show is looking to explore with Soldier Boy. Billy Butcher is on the chopping block – and after how things ended with Soldier Boy in season three and what he did to Victoria Neuman when he went full Doctor Octopus in the S4 finale I think it’s to be expected.

“Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3,” reveals Kripke. “So he’s just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes.”
Apparently, when Jensen Ackles came out at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend the crowd of fans went absolutely mad. Eric Kripke has of course previously worked with Ackles for years – considering he played one of the lead roles in Supernatural, also created and showran by Kripke. “We were just really excited to bring him out. And, you know, Jensen, despite his tragic ugliness you know, we thought we should give him a shot,” Eric joked.
I need season five NOW.
