Producers ban cast members from wearing the same colour dress as Maya Jama on Love Island

This is pretty brutal

It might seem like an easy life being a cast member on Love Island and getting to pick from all the clothes you want, but it turns out there’s some pretty strict rules in place from the producers. You might have spotted cast members re-wearing and sharing certain types of clothing, and there are a couple of reasons for this.

It seems like the producers want to make sure all eyes are on Miss Maya Jama during the dramatic recoupling ceremonies, as it turns out Islanders are banned from wearing the same colour dress as her. Yep, so that means even if you had your heart set on that little black dress that would secure you getting in a couple if Maya is wearing black then tough luck!

Dumped Islander Jess White revealed all, as she explained: “The night of the Casa recoupling, Maya was wearing red. Emma [Milton] and Mimii [Ngulube] wanted to wear red but they couldn’t. They thought it might be a strobing situation but we now know it’s because Maya was wearing red. Another night, we weren’t allowed to wear black and that’s when she came in wearing black.”

However, the Islanders could also use this tactic to their advantage to strategically try and work out which nights Maya might be making a surprise appearance, just make sure every girl wants to wear a different coloured dress and have all your primary colour bases covered.

Another very strict clothing rule the cast of Love Island has to follow is to ensure the clothes they wear don’t have a strobing effect. Love Island Casa Amor cast member Lucy Greybill admitted that each outfit they were planning on wearing that evening would be vetted by producers. She explained: “Some outfits would react to the cameras – specifically mesh. We had to get strobe tested at night time. This is why the girls end up sharing clothes or using the eBay wardrobe, which was a lifesaver.”
