We’re all hating on her, so when and how does Vhagar die in the House of the Dragon books?

At this point, Vhagar has done more damage in House of the Dragon than any other character and I think we’ll all feel a sense of justice when she does finally die. Aside from being an absolute beast of a dragon, she’s also ridden by Aemond and the pair of them have zero remorse in just flaming family members left, right and centre.

So whilst Vhagar is currently in her reign of terror era, when and how does she finally die in the House of the Dragon books? Although to be honest by the time she meets her grisly end there’s not a lot of other Targareyn’s left for her and Aemond to take down anyway. Talk about a power couple.

Vhagar was originally ridden by Visneya Targaryen, but after she died Aemond took control of the huge dragon himself. In the Dance of the Dragons, Aemond and Vhagar plus Caraxes and Daemon have a very intense battle above the largest lake in Westeros called God’s Eye. Vhagar and Caraxes are both trying to take each other out, but in a very unexpected move, Daemon actually jumps from his dragon to Vhagar.

Once he’s on Vhagar, Daemon then stabs Aemond in his remaining good eye with the Dark Sister sword, which instantly kills him. The scuffle results in both of the dragons and Daemon, falling into the lake below. Vhagar is instantly killed upon impact, with Caraxes managing to limp to the shore before dying. Daemon is presumed dead but his body is never actually found, adding fuel to the theory that he gets turned into the Night King…

If the showrunners decide to stick to the book ending for these four characters then it’ll certainly be a very memorable battle to witness, and one that we could see either at the end of this season or halfway through the next. Your days are numbered Vhagar!
