‘Jimmy’s will still be Jimmy’s’: Jimmy Allen’s open a second nightclub in Durham
Double the woodgates, double the dancefloor and double the DJ Dave B – sign me up
What a day to be alive. Seriously, this might be the moment of the summer.
Popular Durham nightclub Jimmy Allen’s has announced that to meet the extremely high demand it has attained it will be opening a second venue for the 24/25 academic year, opening in freshers week.
This new venue is located in Fowlers Yard where Wiff Waff and King Pong operated in the past. Taking inspiration from its location, the second coming of loose and lash will be called ‘Fowlers’.
It is a testament to the success of Jimmy Allen’s that it is able to open a second venue while still receiving high turnout seven days a week, every week in its original location. Particularly in an era where most nightclubs are struggling, and some are going under, it speaks volumes of the genuine love Durham students have for the club that it is able to expand.
A spokesperson from Jimmy Allen’s commented “It goes down the students who support us week in week out. We run Jimmy’s as a fun, welcoming venue with reasonable drinks prices and we genuinely do thank all students who support us”.
Where things are changing, it will be for the better. While the bottom floor is expected to host a dance floor similar to where we all spend our Wednesday nights already, the top floor “will be a full time karaoke bar with DJ”. Karaoke is something of a novelty in Durham and it is refreshing to see a nightclub in the city trying something original.
But, worry not. Not everything will be changing. Perhaps the five most important words in this article are those that Jimmy Allen’s proudly confirmed: “Woodgates will still be available”. Count me in.

Jimmy Allen’s has been in the market for a second location for a while now, saying “we started looking at a venue early in the year around February”.
Hopefully, this second location will reduce queue times both outside the club and at the bar, while transforming nightlife in Durham by providing another solid option for a night out.
The future is exciting for both Jimmy Allen’s and Durham students. In relation to the future, Jimmy Allen’s commented that “Jimmy’s will still be Jimmy’s, no change there, just taking up a new exciting business challenge”.
