In honour of Zayn Malik: Eight other celebs who got kicked off dating apps for catfishing
They can’t catch a break!
You might think it would be easy for an A-list celebrity to hop on any old dating app they’d like and be inundated with matches, but a lot of them get booted off for suspected catfishing before they’ve even had a chance to swipe! Zayn Malik recently spoke about his experience with being reported for catfishing, so in honour of his misfortune here are five other celebs who got kicked off dating apps.
Zayn Malik
Zayn recently revealed that he was banned from the dating app Tinder after he was reported for catfishing, and you know what I’d probably report him if I saw him. He explained: “Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’ I’ve been kicked off once or twice.”

Umm, yes that’s right Miss Clueless herself was banned from the same app not once, but twice and that’s some serious bad luck right there. She explained during The Drew Barrymore Show that she first got banned after she deliberately made a fake account, and the second time just moments before leaving for a date.
She hilariously admitted to Drew: “A few years ago I tried to get on one of the dating apps and I put in a fake profile because I wasn’t comfortable yet being me and then I got kicked off, I got banned. And then I tried again, I got the courage up because I heard that you were on, and I heard that Sharon Stone was on, so I was like, ‘Well if they can be on, I can be on.

If you need any more proof there’s no more down-to-earth celebrity than Andy Cohen, he bravely revealed that he prefers to use “normal people” dating apps like Tinder, but as a result, keeps getting kicked off for catfishing. What a hard life.
He explained his predicament on The Ellen Show: “There is a gay dating app that I’m on that I keep getting kicked off of because they think I’m impersonating Andy Cohe. They’re like, ‘Your photos don’t meet our guidelines,’ and I’m like, ‘It is me!’”

Poor Lewis can’t seem to catch a break either and confessed that he’s also been kicked off various dating platforms for suspected catfishing. Speaking to the G2 supplement he revealed: “Yeah, they thought I was catfishing. If I was going to catfish any celebrity, it wouldn’t be me. You can’t get many bites on a Lewis Capaldi Tinder account, and I know that because I own one.”

After seven years of being a dedicated Tinder user, Billy Eicher was unexpectedly booted from the app after “violating the terms of service”, presumably for reports of catfishing. He admitted to Jimmy Kimmel: “No joke, this is true, I was banned from Tinder. You’re laughing, but I’m going to die alone!
“I’ve been on Tinder for, like, seven years and I’m very nice. I don’t do anything naughty or weird, I’m a normal person. They banned me all of a sudden. And I say, ‘Why?’ They didn’t give me an explanation, they just said, ‘You violated the terms of use.’ And I said, ‘I’ve been single for seven years, you violated the terms of use!’ I didn’t violate anything!
“I was furious. I guess because I’m a public person maybe people thought it was a fake profile, which actually happened to my friend Andy Cohen, they kicked him off. Or maybe they just don’t like gay people, I don’t know! No, they don’t, they’re very nice to gay people, it had nothing to do with that. I guess someone reported me as being fake, but that is really me. Why not? Why can’t I be on there?”

Sam Smith might win the award for the shortest time on a dating app before being kicked off, lasting just one night. They explained to Andy Cohen: “I’m on the frontline with all the single people still and it’s been difficult, I’ve gone on all the apps and stuff. I took your advice. I joined this dating site called Hinge in the UK and they chucked me off of it after one night cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me.”
