Iconic Bristol nightclub Gravity to close down immediately due to ‘economic strains’
The nightclub beloved by Bristol students and residents has closed its doors after seven years
Gravity Nightclub, one of Bristol’s most popular venues, has announced its closure with immediate effect.
Taking to Instagram to share the announcement, Gravity stated “with a heavy heart” that “the landlord has elected to repurpose the premises”, resulting in the club’s prompt closure.
Gravity has been a firm favourite amongst Bristol students since opening in 2017 and has gone on to establish itself within the city’s nightlife scene.
Within its statement, Gravity revealed the reason for its closure was due to financial difficulties: “The economic strains affecting us all, especially the younger demographics and the student community have deeply influenced our operations.”
“Coupled with the increasing expenses tied to wages, regulatory fees and the overarching costs inherent to the hospitality world, we’ve encountered a tough situation.”
The news follows neighbouring Triangle club Mbargo’s unexpected announcement in March of its “revamp” and temporary closure.
Gravity further stated that “despite our best efforts to establish a vibrant clubbing venue where cherished memories are forged among friends…we announce the closure of Gravity nightclub.”
Gravity has hosted the iconic Fishies sports night every Wednesday since 2020, with this weekly event being at the heart of many sports society’s socials.
Fishies has also taken to Instagram in light of Gravity’s closure, making its own announcement that a “new plaice” is to be announced soon.
Its statement went on to say: “We hake to say it but all good things come to an end one day, today the end is Gravity.”
Gravity concluded the post with #SaveOurScene, calling attention to the event and media organisation that aims to support musicians, venues and the live music industry in times of financial difficulties.

Gravity went on to thank its loyal supporters in its announcement.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who has walked through our doors and the remarkable team members whose efforts propelled Gravity to be a landmark in Bristol’s night scene since our opening on Saturday, April 29, 2017.”
