House viewings are a painful experience from start to finish
Stop walking in on my naps
Whether it’s your first year or your last year of university nothing is more tedious or annoying as this time consuming act of adulthood. Making the dreaded walk to houses to those having to wake up from their mid-evening nap to let the viewers in – its a horrible experience for all involved.
From the moment you get the call from your landlord it’s a tidal wave of conflicted effort. You ask yourself why you’re wasting precious napping time on this house, when you barely find the three waking hours of the day to turn up to university?

Your housemate lets you know the date and time of the viewing and you store it in the same place as assignment dates of uni, where it’s completely forgotten about. Until that moment you wake up from the messy night before, consisting of way to many Sambuca shots, with the head banging realisation that strangers will be looking into your bedroom in five minutes. It’s a travesty.
Most of us will start hiding the numerous bottles of Tesco brand vodka and Frosty Jack bottles out in the alleyway so as not to get the overbearing looks of pity, maybe you’ll spray some of your aftershave to hide the smell of alcohol seeping out of your bedroom from lying there all night unconscious. Regardless of how you clean it up though there’s no hiding the rotten decay in your cold damp student house. The landlord won’t be happy but it’s not like your getting your deposit back anyway.

Tbf this is the room tidy
Then there are the rooms you can barely open the door of due to week old Dominos and Pizza Co. boxes moulding in a mountain in the corner. Do they look embarrassed? Hell no, they wade around in their own produced filth and are proud to call it their domain during the viewing.
The sigh of relief from your group when the landlord knocks the door and theres no answer and the fear of being stared out whilst viewing someone else’s room is gone, only to walk in on someone lying naked on top of their bedsheets? How many of us has this happened to? Too many.
And then there’s the territorial feelings that arise. A group comes in and you instinctually dislike them: “This is our house and shall be forevermore”.
Really you’re just being petty – you don’t want the house anymore but nobody else can have it, kind of like most break ups right?
