Last week team Loughborough were crowned champions of British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), a title we have held since 1980.

Over the week long BUCS conference in Liverpool, our current VP for Sport Steffan Lloyd accepted the award on behalf of the 4,500 sportspeople who make up Loughborough’s Athletics Union.

Team Lboro accumulated 5,828 points, over 1,800 points more than Durham, our next closest competitor.

This year’s gargantuan haul is 500 points higher than the tally 12 months ago.

Stefan Lloyd, commenting on Loughborough’s 35th straight thrashing, said: “I mean to win anything for 35 years is a massive achievement in any industry let alone in the student world as teams and clubs have to adapt to a new student cohort so regularly.

“The beauty of this achievement also is that students are 100% behind this success as they lead the club, manage the budget, coach, play and win.”

When asked about how he felt that Lboro had won for the 35th consecutive year during his reign as VP Sport Steffan said: “The students, committees and club chairs have been astonishing this year therefore, strangely, I felt guilty picking this trophy up.

“I’m just a small part of this year’s success. Despite this, it was a proud moment for me to collect the trophy on behalf of this amazing university.”
