And though I don’t want to say it was the biggest mistake of 2017, it was definitely up there.
Last night, ‘La La Land’ was mistakenly announced as Best Picture
Moonlight had actually won.
“I want to tell you what happened,” Warren Beatty, who was presenting the award said. “I opened the envelope and it said, ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.'” But he’d apparently been handed Emma’s award for best actor.
Emma was confused, because she’d been holding onto her award all night, but the Oscars typically make two sets of awards for everyone, so that incase one gets lost, they have a spare. That was hardly a convenience for them this time.
