Wilmslow Road cordoned off amid reports of finding a suspicious device
Eyewitnesses are suggesting it is an unexploded bomb from WW1
A “suspicious device” has allegedly been found near Withington Fire Station, prompting a 25 metre cordon closing Wilmslow Road.
Just before midday, officers taped off a section of the road to Didsbury and have remained there into the afternoon. As reported by Manchester Evening News, bomb disposal experts have been called in and it is believed the finding could be an unexploded device from World War One.
An eyewitness at the scene reportedly told a MEN reporter the device in question is a bomb shell, which was brought to church in the morning, prompting emergency services to be called.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said in a statement:
