Looking for a new society? Come and write for us at The Manchester Tab
Come to our open meeting Thursday 26th September at 6pm at Nest Fallowfield
So you have just started at University in Manchester. You have spent half your student overdraft in Fallow Sainsbury’s, been dragged to Cargo by your new housemates and probably missed half your welcome week activities (we’ve all been there). But you’re probably thinking, I need something else to do with all my free time.
I love knowing all the goss, telling people my favourite places I’ve discovered and being in the know. Look no further than The Manchester Tab. We are a student-led news site, writing about the best chips in Fallowfield, breaking Manchester-based news stories and everything else that is relevant to students.
We’re hosting an open meeting on Thursday 26th September at Nest in Fallowfield. We are looking for any freshers and returning students to any of the Manchester Universities who have a passion for writing stories or social media content! If this isn’t enough, we’ve outlined four reasons you should write for us.
1. It looks amazing on your CV
The Manchester Tab is linked with over 30 other uni-specific sites, with a combined readership of over six million. If you are looking towards a career in journalism or media, we can help you develop your skills whilst you gain experience writing for a nationally recognised newspaper, whose articles have previously been picked up by the BBC and The Times amongst other household names. Even if you are not looking for a career in media- it helps you develop transferrable skills while doing something you love.
2. You can write about what your interested in
Most Read
Literally, whatever you’re interested in. Thrifting, takeaways, halls or residence or Rent Strikes- the options are basically endless. As long as it is relevant to people like you (students in Manchester) it will have a place at The Manchester Tab. If you get stuck, we have a full team of editors onside to help you out, and we can also provide you with ideas if you want to write, but can’t think of anything to write about. If you can have a conversation with your friends in the pub about it, you can write about it. Here are some of our previously written articles:
I survived an entire year in Oak House.. here’s how you can too
Eight things I would nominate for the UoM ‘Walk of fame’
Fallow-een is here and so is a round up of all your best looks
3. You are at the forefront of Manchester Uni gossip
Being part of The Tab, we define newsworthy as being something you’d be excited to tell your mates at the pub or put on your group chat. Our team find the best stories happening around the uni, and our dedication usually means we get there first.
4. You’ll meet new people
Above all else, we try to have fun. The Tab is a friendly place where we have weekly meetings and regular socials (as well as writing the best articles in Manchester). It’s a great way to make friends – everyone at The Manchester Tab started without being friends, and now we’re close mates. What’s not to like? Come along to our open meeting at 6pm on Thursday 26th September at Nest, Fallowfield, Manchester M14 6XQ%MCEPASTEBIN%. Everyone is welcome!
