Glasgow University ranks 13th in the Guardian University Guide 2024

Still ahead of Edinburgh, not that it’s a competition

The Guardian’s 2024 university league table placed the University of Glasgow at number 13, after placing 11th in last year’s 2023 table.

Each university was assessed on a variety of different specifications, including teaching satisfaction, spend per student, and career after 15 months.

For feedback satisfaction, Glasgow ranked one of the lowest in the top 20 with a score of 59.6. This follows over half of final year students graduating without knowing their degree classification this summer.

Spend per student/10 was also one of the lowest in the Guardian’s top universities at 5.3/10. For average entry tariff of students applying, Glasgow was second on the league table. Glasgow’s score of 211 behind St. Andrew’s 212 reflects the typical UCAS scores of young entrants (under 21) to the department.

In individual subject rankings, Glasgow topped the table with a Guardian score of 100 for zoology and biology. Glasgow was in second for general nursing, sports science, and international relations, and third for theology and history of art. UofG also made top five for dentistry, pharmacy, politics, and psychology.
