Here’s everything that went down during Chill Hill 2024 at Exeter Uni

It’s been seven years since the slopes first came to Forum Hill

Chill Hill saw 50 tonnes of snow dumped on Forum Hill on 17 February, for a day full of ski tricks, music and drinking, in classic Exetah style.

This was the first time in seven years that the event has been held, prompting students from not only Exeter, but also six nearby unis, to attend the show. The event was hosted by Snowsports Exeter, in collaboration with Jibworx, a company that holds freestyle skiing events throughout Europe.

There were multiple sponsors: Red Bull Snow, Faction, bro! clothing, Timepiece, Hijacked, Dope Snow and JUBEL. Music pumped out all day from the Jibworx bus, and included popular Hijacked DJs such as Higgo, Morgs, and Magic Psalm. For food, pizza and crepes were the order of the day, and there was plenty of stash, including t-shirts and hip flasks. Drinks were constantly flowing, with queues swarming out of the Ram, so much so that it seems people were willing to do whatever it took to get a pint:

The day started with adaptive skiing, which was hosted by Snowsports Exeter and Clifton Hill Dry Ski slope. This was a sit ski session on Stocker Road which allowed for people with disabilities to experience the joys of skiing, in a safe way.

The main event of the day was then the freestyle jam. From 2:30pm, skiiers and snowboarders from around the country performed some flips and tricks, competing against each other, with the finals at 5pm and prizes from sponsors at 6:15pm.

For those of us that were less skiing inclined, Chill Hill had an option for us: Sledging down the slope from 6:30pm for £2.

Ben Kelpie, our TikTok editor, went to see what all the fuss was about:

To top it all off, the day ended in an afterparty at TP. Venoms and skiing: The perfect opportunity to get into your overdraft (though mummy and daddy obviously paid).
