We found Edinburgh’s best student deals so you don’t have to
You’re welcome x
Edinburgh might be one of the prettiest cities in the U.K but it is also one of the most expensive. Want to treat yourself without breaking in the overdraft? Here are my favourite budget-friendly meals, drinks and places for students in Edinburgh.
Here are the best deals and discounts on food in Edi:
£1 Barburrito deal (UNiDAYS)
UNiDAYS is a great way to check out what student deals are in your area and one of my favourites in Edinburgh is the £1 Burrito at Barburrito. This deal is limited to one burrito per UNiDAYS user and available for a limited time at the start of freshers.
Civerinos £10 per person bottomless pizza
Civerinos is all around an iconic food spot in Edinburgh and even more iconic is its bottomless pizza. Branded “Thugslice”, this deal is available Monday to Wednesday at Civerinos Forrest Road location from 9pm until late (be prepared for a food coma).
Bahn mi brothers
Want to try something different? Located in the middle of Grassmarket and Lauriston, Bahn mi brothers offers fresh Vietnamese sandwiches and noodle salads with various toppings for as cheap as £6.50. What’s even better is that you can grab either a Bahn mi or noodle salad with soup or crisps and a drink for £8.50.
10-to-10 Dehli
If you’re looking to grab something light in the middle of a busy day, 10-to-10 Dehli serve samosas (lamb or vegetable), or spinach pakoras with a side of Chana Masala for as little as £4.95. They also offer a 10 per cent student discount on all other meals.
Nile Valley Wraps
It might be political adding Nile Valley Wraps to this list and not Afrikaan wrap (although both are extremely affordable) but sometimes it’s fun to be controversial. With multiple fillings and wraps ranging from £4.25 to £5.50, there’s no room to complain.
Chez Jules
There’s still room to be boujie whilst being economical and Chez Jules is your proof. Enjoy a two course French lunch (from 12pm until 4pm) for £10.90 or a three-course lunch for £12.90.
The Chanter
Although known as a spot for a cheap pint, the Chanter also offer lunch and a soft drink for £6. If you’re feeling a bit crazy, you can upgrade to an alcoholic beverage for £2 more.
Meals on University of Edinburgh Campuses
Saving the most reliable food spot for last, the University of Edinburgh has a lot of cheap options for snacks and meals. With £1.50 soup from the Old Medical Cafe, and £3 wraps at the Nucleus, no matter what campus you are on, you will always manage to find a decent scran.
Deliveroo
This one wont be a secret come welcome week when you are hounded by promoters scattered around the campus but if you do somehow manage to miss their big blue bags, you can sign up for free Deliveroo Plus using your student email, you may as well get that hangover cure a pound or two cheaper.
And even more importantly, here are the best student deals on drinks. You’re so welcome, don’t even mention it.
The Tron
Known for its student deals and live music, the Tron is my saviour when it comes to a cheap drink. The Tron offers deals on pretty much every form of alcoholic beverage with pints of cider for £2.75, cocktails for £4.50 and pints of Madri for £4.
The Chanter
Whilst I don’t support favouritism, the Chanter deserves to have a spot on this list twice. With pints from £3 (with a valid student ID) it’s hard not to play favourites.
Southsider
Another quintessential spot for a £3 pint of tenants (again, with valid student ID). Located in the heart of Newington, this might not be a secret spot but it still is a great one.
Frankenstein
A lot of people think Frankenstein’s is exclusively a tourist spot but it is a student paradise on a Wednesday. Vodka and mixer for £2.75, a pint of Tenants for £3.05 and rum with a mixer for £3, make sure to treat your liver kindly.
Potterow
Would this list be complete without the trust student union? With cheap eats (looking at you half price curly fries) and £3 pints there’s a reason its a student favourite (P.S we miss you Teviot).
Hive
Hear me out before you judge. This list is about being cost-efficient, not glamorous. If you need a cheap place to pre for a night out Hive is your best friend. £1 Singles and £2 doubles on a weekday (excluding Fridays)?? Tell your bank account to thank me later.
Moving swiftly on, here are the best deals on fashion and clothes for all the style icons who are too impatient to wait for a Depop parcel to arrive.
Vintage sales and clothes swaps
Throughout welcome week and the university term Potterrow’s Hangar 5 is filled up with rails and rails of (sometimes) affordable clothing for Edinburgh’s sustainable fashionistas.
Adidas
Don’t let Rishi and Starmer get you down, you can get those Sambas or Gazelles for 15 per cent off – it’s probably still going to hurt though.
Urban Outfitters
Pollock girls go wild, that’s right, 10 per cent off in-shop with frequent 20 per cent off deals online via UNiDAYS. See you all on What Are You Wearing Wednesday.
