These are the best Russell Group unis in 2024, according to The Times
Aka the unis guaranteed to impress your grandparents
The 2024 edition of The Good University Guide from The Times and Sunday Times has dropped, and several Russell Group unis have slipped down the rankings. Here is a rundown of where all the Russell Group unis came on The Times’s 2024 ranking, so that you know which are still worth bothering to apply to.
The Times explains where it actually gets all these numbers from here.
According to The Times, the best Russell Group uni in 2024 is the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). This uni is in first place on the whole league table, beating Oxbridge and St Andrews. It’s the first time that LSE has topped any big uni ranking.
In the most recent National Student Survey, LSE students said they were happier at uni than the Oxbridge uni students did. LSE had a student experience score of 79.6 per cent, which is much higher than Oxford Uni’s score of 71.1 per cent and Cambridge Uni’s score of 73.3 per cent. This helped LSE beat Oxbridge in The Times’s ranking.
Unsurprisingly, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are also very high up on The Times’s league ranking in 2024. After all the extra effort of getting into Oxbridge, you’d be pretty fed up if they weren’t near the top.
The Times and the Sunday Times think that Queen Mary University of London is the worst Russell Group uni in 2024. They ranked it in 39th place on the league table – much lower than any other Russell Group uni. Queen Mary Uni had a low teaching score, of just 78.2.
