It turns out Lucas Bravo was originally rejected for the role of Gabriel in Emily in Paris

Yeah, so it turns out we were very close to not having Lucas Bravo as Gabriel in Emily in Paris, and I can’t tell how I feel about it. Whilst I loved Gabriel in season one of Emily in Paris, he’s really irritated me this season and I won’t lie, the haircut isn’t helping his case.

Lucas Bravo revealed to PEOPLE that he was initially rejected by the studio after going through five rounds of auditions after Paramount didn’t “want to take a chance on” him because he didn’t have “enough background.” He was so heartbroken over not getting the role that he ran away to the island of Corsica.

He then explained how his trip was cut short because of a “very weird” event. He elaborated: “A hiker came by and he was like, ‘Can I borrow your phone? I really need to call my daughter.’ I gave him my phone, and he left, but never came back.”

He continued that the man told him: “‘Your phone was vibrating left and right when I got service, so you should check it out.’ And I was like, ‘No, no, no. I’m here to forget this Emily in Paris thing. And in the morning, I woke up like, ‘I should take a look at it.'”

Upon checking his phone he saw he had missed over 40 messages and 30 missed calls for the casting director of Emily in Paris. Whilst he immediately returned to Paris, Lucas felt very confused as “the official Gabriel had signed his contract, did a table read, [and] was about to start.” He then found out that he would be auditioning for Emily’s other love interests.

He still had to read Gabriel’s lines during auditions for the other roles, which he thought was “a bit harsh” because it was “still an open wound.” The day after he got the call that he would be starting as Gabriel in two days, adding that the creator of the show “went against the studio” in order to cast him.
