Scarf jackets to barette clips: The fashion trends predicted for autumn, according to TikTok

I am not mixing gold and silver jewellery

Even though it still feels a little weird, summer has officially ended. Sorry to break it to you. Wave goodbye to the crochet vests, fruit print t-shirts, and flower hair clips because sweater season is here. Cold weather is only a few weeks away, and I’m sure you’re currently panicked about switching up your wardrobe. Not to worry, because here is a list of all the 2024 autumn fashion trends predicted by TikTok

Suede

Apparently suede is the next big thing. Leather was absolutely everywhere last autumn, and now suede is taking the reigns. TikTok just can’t get over all of these gorgeous suede jackets and bags, and the videos are quite tempting to be honest. From oversized long jackets to cute cropped ones, suede is getting worn by all the celebs right now – Dakota Johnson, Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajowski, and Matilda Djerf (fashion icon, we must buy ASAP). Everyone is jumping on the brown suede trend, the perfect colour for the autumn season.

Olive green everything

After the hype of cherry red last year, this year is all about olive green. Or, that’s what TikTok is saying anyway. To be honest, this colour is so perfect for Autumn and also goes with everything. Plus, the best thing about olive green is that it looks gorg as a monochrome outfit (one colour for the whole thing). I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot of olive co-ords this season.

Scarf jackets

Who invented this? I’m beyond obsessed with these newly trending scarf jackets. They look so chic and cool, but also very warm for those chilly days. There are plenty TikToks of people showing off their new purchase and actual tutorials of how to put the jacket on properly. It does look a little confusing.

Bag charms

These aren’t a personal fave, but I guess they’re kind of cute on a little bag. A brown suede bag, probably. Fluffy bag charms really aren’t that practical considering the downpour of rain we get every single autumn… but slay, I guess.

Oversized trench coats

Trench coats have been trending for the last couple years, but this year they’re gonna be bigger than ever (literally). 2024 is taking oversized to a whole new level and I’m beyond jealous of the girlies on TikTok that can actually pull it off. Molly Mae is the queen of an oversized trench over on Instagram, but be careful – it’s a slippery slope between cute insta aesthetic and detective inspector.

Mixing gold and silver jewellery

This girl’s caption is quite aggressive, and I say I’M NOT DOING IT. There is no chance in hell I’ll be caught mixing jewellery this autumn. Gold girlie forever.

Big personalised statement jewellery is also a predicted trend for this season. So, if you have a big ugly necklace hidden in your drawer, now is the time to get it out.

Knit jumpers with maxi skirts

Sweater weather. You can’t go wrong with a big comfy jumper and a maxi skirt. Pair with some cute boots and you have the perfect autumnal outfit. Did you love the maxi skirt vibe this summer? Well, TikTok is saying that you can take your fave skirts straight into autumn with you (and maybe even winter if it’s not too freezing)!

Double denim

Denim shirts are one of the 2024 autumn fashion trends TikTok claims to be trending this month. If you haven’t seen them yet, you clearly haven’t been into your local Zara. The only thing cuter than a little denim moment is even more denim. I know, wild. Those that brave double denim are obviously the most fashionable of us all, because it really takes some confidence to try it for the first time. Where did the double denim stigma ever come from, anyway?

Messy braids

The hairstyle of the season has been officially decided. A single messy braid. And it has to be the perfect amount of messy, obviously. Are we moving away from the slick back? Everyone is clearly a little sick of how tight a slicked bun feels, and TikTok is guiding us right into messy territory. I support this movement.

Barette hair clips

These little accessories have come out of nowhere, but now they’re all over TikTok. People are absolutely obsessed with these hair clips, especially the ones in brown tortoiseshell. The viral flower clip of the summer has officially been dethroned.

‘Confused weather aesthetic’

TikTok fashion gurus have predicted that huge coats and flip-flops will be paired together this season. Crazy. Apparently, those Birkenstocks actually don’t have to get packed away for the next nine months. TikTok is calling it confused weather aesthetic, but they’re not confused, just fashionable. Think huge jumpers and tiny shorts, fluffy hats with tank tops, puffer jackets with Crocs (average supermarket fit).

Knee-high boots

TikTok is filled with videos of people styling their knee-high boots – if anything, they’re more of an accessory that goes with every single outfit rather than an actual pair of shoes. They are super cute and will most definitely gain more popularity this autumn season. We’ll probably even see them in a range of wild colours, not just brown or black.

Fur

Faux fur jackets were the big thing last autumn, and they’re going to be back better than ever this year. You can’t escape an influencer in fur on your feed, and they’re called influencers for a reason (I think). TikTok has a load of girlies unpacking their new jackets, and all the comments are filled with “wow” and “obsessed”. Fur jackets can be dressed up or down – perfect for every occasion. Paired with a cute baggy jean, the girlies are going to be looking very cosy this autumn season.
