The Olympics judge has doubled down on why he gave Raygun 0 points for breaking routine

‘Her level was not as high as the other competitors

The senior breaking judge at the Olympics has both doubled down on giving Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn a score of 0 points for the widely ridiculed and viral routine in Paris.

Raygun has become a massive meme after her routine scored her a dismal 0 points at the Paris Olympics, and is fully viral after the sport had its debut at the Olympics and she did a “kangaroo dance” representing Australia and flopped big time. Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn actually has a PhD in cultural studies – and she’s getting dragged for the academia not quite translating to the arena. She scored 0 in every category.

Head judge Martin Gilian has defended Raygun whilst doubling down on 0 being the correct score after backlash from Rayon’s family and the routine being mocked literally anywhere you look online. Gilian praised Raygun for her “originality” and “Bringing something new to the table”. Certainly one way of putting it.

“She got inspired by her surroundings, which in this case, for example, was a kangaroo,” he explained in a news conference. He also said the hiphop and breaking community “definitely stand behind her”.

“We have five criteria in the competitive judging system and just her level was maybe not as high as the other competitors,” MGbility said. “But again, that doesn’t mean that she did really bad. She did her best. She won the Oceania qualifier… unfortunately for her, the other b-girls were better.”

Since the backlash, Raygun has actually had to seek mental health support after savage memes continue to mock her. Some publications have defended the right to mock – it’s all fun and games, isn’t it? It’s not personal, but if you do a daft little dance on the world stage I’m afraid laughs are part of the parcel – in my opinion.
