A decade since its debut, this is what the cast of Orange Is the New Black is up to now

I’m weeping, how has it been 10 years already?


It has been 10 years since Orange Is the New Black first debuted on Netflix and skyrocketed the careers of some of the now most well known faces in television.

Orange Is the New Black was a TV series like no other and over the years it earned 21 Emmy nominations and four wins as well as three SAG Awards. The series followed Piper Chapman as she adjusts to life in prison as she reconnects with an old flame who was the reason behind her being in prison.

10 years since it first hit Netflix screens and changed the trajectory of everybody’s lives, this is what the Orange Is the New Black cast are all up to now.

Taylor Schilling – Piper Chapman

Over the course of playing Piper Chapman in Orange Is the New Black, Taylor Schilling won a number of Satellite Awards and several Screen Actors Guild Awards.

After saying goodbye to Piper Chapman after seven seasons, Taylor went on to appear in The Prodigy, The Bite and Monsterland. Earlier this year, Taylor starred in the Apple TV series Dear Edward, a series about a lone survivor of a plane crash who tries to make sense of the tragedy that has happened.

In 2020, while celebrating Pride month, Taylor confirmed she was dating visual artists Emily Ritz. “I couldn’t be more proud to be by your side @TaylorSchilling Happy Pride!” Ritz wrote across an image of her and Taylor, which Taylor reposted with a bunch of heart emojis.

Laura Prepon – Alex Vause

Laura Prepon was already an established actress before appearing in OITNB, and was well known for playing Donna Pinciotti in That ’70s Show. Since appearing in the Netflix series, Laura has gone on to star in That ’90s Show and launched her own cooking show called PrepOn Kitchen.

Laura married her long term partner Ben Foster in 2018 and they now have two children together. Ahead of her son’s birth, Laura wrote You and I, as Mothers: A Raw and Honest Guide to Motherhood, where she shared different points of motherhood for all ages.

“I really did learn so much about that experience I was going through [while pregnant with my second] and how to prepare for the next time and the fact that every situation is different from child to child,” she told US Weekly about her book.

Uzo Aduba – Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren

Uzo Aduba’s portrayal of Suzanne Warren won her two Emmy Awards and two SAG awards and in 2015 she became the first actress to win Emmys in both the comedy and drama categories for the same role.

After leaving the Netflix series, Uzo appeared in Mrs. America alongside Sarah Paulson and Cate Blanchett. Across the years since OITNB, Uzo has starred in Miss Virgina, Beats and Solos.

In 2020 Uzo and her husband, Robert Sweeting, secretly got married and revealed the news a year later.

“For some of us, it can feel like we spend our whole lives waiting for our special someone. My heart, my love — I’m so happy my life started last year with you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,” she wrote at the time of the news.

In June 2023, Uzo revealed she and Robert were expecting their first child together.

“What a blessing. My husband Robert and I are so happy to enter this next chapter together as parents,” the actress captioned the post announcing the news.

“I am beyond excited. I get to be someone’s Mommy! I know as the three of us continue to grow, our only, ONLY goal will be to love you, little one. My goodness. Look what God has done.”

Danielle Brooks – Tasha ‘Taystee’ Jefferson

After appearing on OITNB, Danielle took Broadway by storm and earned a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of Sofia in The Color Purple. Since then, Danielle has starred in Clemency, Peacemaker and Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia.

In Janaury 2022, Danielle married her partner Dennis Gelin after being engaged for two years. The ceremony was held in Miami at the historic Alfred DuPont Building. In November 2019, Danielle gave birth to a girl, who they named Freeya.

Samira Wiley – Poussey Washington

OITNB was Samira Wiley’s rise to fame and she later gained further notoriety in the 2017 series The Handmaid’s Tale, in which she won an Emmy for. Samira has also appeared in Breaking News in Yuba County, Night on Earth and Vault.

Samira announced her engagement to Orange Is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli in October 2016 and the couple got married in March 2017. In May 2021 Lauren gave birth to a baby, her first child with Samira.

“Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after labouring for almost three days gave birth to our first child — our gorgeous daughter, George,”Samira captioned a photo of their newborn.

“Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for,” she added.

Adrienne C. Moore – Cindy Hayes

Adrienne C. Moore provided nothing but laughs as her character Cindy. After her time as a series regular on OITNB, Adrienne went on to star in The Lennon Report, Pretty Hard Cases and Modern Persuasion.

Natasha Lyonne – Nicky Nichols

Almost immediately after OITNB finished, Natasha Lyonne continued working on Russian Doll with Netflix. Her most recent work is in the Peacock series Poker Face, a crime drama created by Rian Johnson.

Laverne Cox – Sophia Burset

Laverne Cox’s role on OITNB made history as she became the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy Award in any acting category. Laverne has gone on to star in Inventing Anna, Promising Young Woman and Jolt.

Laverne Cox has gone on to become a a huge figure within the LGBTQ community and was the executive producer on Netflix’s 2020 series Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen.

Kate Mulgrew – Galina ‘Red’ Reznikov

Kate Mulgrew was already an established actress before appearing on Orange Is the New Black and had even worked with Taylor Schilling on a prior project. Since starring as Red in the Netflix series, Kate has appeared in Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Discovery Logs and The Magnificent Meyersons.

Kate and her husband Tim Hagan divorced in 2014. She has three children with her former husband Robert H, Egan called, Danielle Gaudette, Alexander James Egan and Ian Thomas Egan.

Taryn Manning – Tifanny  ‘Pennsatucky’ Doggett

Taryn played Pennsatucky, a character we all loved to hate, and Taryn’s career has not slowed down. Taryn appeared in the 2021 film Karen, a film that has absolutely dominated TikTok. In recent years she has appeared in It Snows All the Time, Bobcat Moretti and One Day as a Lion.

Taryn was engaged to singer Anne Cline but they split up three months later after sources said Taryn felt like she had to say yes. She is reportedly now in a new relationship but their identity isn’t public knowledge.

Yael Stone – Lorna Morello

Lorna Morello was the best character on OITNB and no one can say otherwise. She was played by Australian actress Yael Stone who has gone on to star in Blaze, Firebite and You and Me, Before and After.

Yael is engaged to her childhood friend, Jack Manning Bancroft, and in 2018 they welcomed their first child together, Pemau.

Selenis Leyva – Gloria Mendoza

Selenis Leyva was part of the Orange Is the New Black cast and is now appearing in a range of Hollywood blockbuster films since the series. Selenis has appeared in the movies Creed III, Breaking and has more recently appeared in the TV shows Diary of a Future President and Lopez vs Lopez.

Dascha Polanco – Daya Diaz

In the first two seasons of OITNB, Dascha was pursuing a career in healthcare but eventually changed career paths and was promoted to a series regular for its third season. She has since landed roles in Poker Face, In the Heights and Russian Doll.

Elizabeth Rodriguez – Aleida Diaz

Elizabeth Rodriguez was part of the Orange Is the New Black cast as Aleida and is now appearing in East New York as Detective Crystal Morales. Elizabeth has also starred in Making Babies and Allswell.

Jackie Cruz – Marisol ‘Flaca’ Gonzales

Following the end of Orange Is the New Black, Jackie Cruz has starred in a number of movies. Some of the films she has appeared in include All the World Is Sleeping, A Nice Girl Like You and Midnight in the Switchgrass.

In 2020, Jackie got married to her long-term boyfriend Fernando Garcia Rosas in Mexico. Two years later, she and Fernando welcomed twins. “My babies are healthy and beautiful,” Jackie said.

Diane Guerrero – Maritza Ramos

As well as gaining notoriety for her role as Maritza Ramos, Diane also rose to fame for her role as Lina in Jane the Virgin. Since then, Diane has appeared in Doom Patrol, Killerman and has done voice work in Elena of Avalor. She more recently voiced the role of Isabela Madrigal in the Disney film Encanto.

Diane has been in a relationship with businessman Bryan Crawford since 2017 and recently said she was exploring her sexuality and she and Bryan were looking for ways to “evolve” their relationship.

Kimiko Glenn – Brook Soso

Kimiko Glenn joined the cast of Orange Is the New Black in its second season and played the role of passionate political activist Brook. Since the show ended, Kimiko has gone on to appear in Can You Keep a Secret, Liza on Demand and has done voice acting work in My Little Pony, Kiff and Close Enough.

Kimiko also originated the role of Dawn in Waitress, best known for her song When He Sees Me. Kimiko has been dating her boyfriend Sean Grandillo since 2015 and they constantly gush about each other in interviews.

Ruby Rose – Stella Carlin

Ruby Rose joined the cast of OITNB as Stella Carlin in its third season in 2015. She later went on to star in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter 2 and The Meg. Notably, Ruby starred as the titular role in The CW’s Batwoman.

As of 2023, Ruby isn’t dating anyone but over the years she has been engaged to Phoebe Dahl, Catherine McNeil and Lyndsey Anne.

Michelle Hurst – Miss Claudette Pelage

Michelle Hurst left Orange Is the New Black after its first season in 2013 and later that year she was placed in a 16-day medically induced coma following a car accident. Thankfully she recovered and has appeared in a string of TV shows including Grand Army, Chicago Med and Diggstown.

Matt McGorry – John Bennett

While Matt is probably best known for playing Asher Millstone in How to Get Away With Murder, he has starred in a string of movies since then as well as OITNB.

Matt has had roles in Good on Paper, Uncorked and Death of a Telemarketer. Matt is reportedly single and little is known about his dating history.

Michael Harney – Sam Healy

Following the end of Orange Is the New Black, Michael Harney appeared in the Apple TV series For All Mankind. In the years since, Michael has appeared in Project Blue Book, The Banker and Hello Tomorrow!

Jason Biggs – Larry Bloom

While Jason Biggs didn’t have the biggest role in OITNB, his character did enough to still irk die-hard fans. Best known for his role in the American Pie franchise, Jason has since appeared in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Outmatched and Jason Biggs’ Cash At Your Door.

Nick Sandow – Joe Caputo

Joe Caputo was part of the Orange Is the New Black cast and is now appearing in an array of movies including Stella’s Last Weekend, Clarice and Time: The Kallef Browder Story.

Alysia Reiner – Natalie ‘Fig’ Figueroa

Alysia Reiner was part of the Orange Is the New Black cast and is now appearing in a bunch of movies including Egg, Equity and So Cold the River.
