The Boys has always done its character deaths in spectacular fashion, and the finale of season five was no different. I’m literally at a loss for words; why did Homelander beg to give Butcher oral?

Across five seasons, we’ve seen hundreds of brutal deaths in The Boys. Think back, there’s been some truly crazy ones. Quite a few of them were in season five, and each was as gutting as the last.

Honourable mention: Victoria Neuman

Look, I get that she died last season, but I’m still not over this. Sue me.

The Deep

This death was a long time coming. Not only is he evil like Homelander, but The Deep is also just a massive pr*ck, a podcaster, a predator for marine life, and such a loser. His crimes are many (and really weird), so thank god he was one of the deaths in the season five finale of The Boys.

The poetic justice of sea creatures killing him is just too good.

Maverick

We never actually laid eyes on Maverick because of his invisibility powers, so it’s hard to feel sad about a disembodied voice.

There’s a bit of a running theme in these deaths, and that’s that most of the men are just objectively awful. Movie director Adam Bourke, who also appeared in the Gen V spin-off, had an eel shoved down his throat by The Deep.

The annoying influencer kids

The Boys has long been a snarky commentary on the state of the world, so of course, the show doubled down on the influencer aspect of celebrity culture. Annoying doesn’t begin to describe them. Thankfully, Jetstreak, Rock Hard, and Sheline all kicked it from Teenage Kix (see what I did there).

Countess Crow was the only somewhat normal one, and she made it out of the show alive.

Love Sausage

Love Sausage – not his birth name – has popped up a few times throughout the five seasons, usually with his prehensile manhood strangling someone or throwing them through a wall.

His death at the hands of MM was not sad, persay, but all 50ft of him perfectly captured the unhinged energy The Boys is known for. It marked the end of an era.

The Comedians

Hollywood stars Will Forte, Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen and Craig Robinson were killed by Mr Marathon’s super speed earlier in the season.

I had to remind myself that The Boys is not a documentary, and Seth Rogan is fine and proboably high somewhere.

Oh Father

Oh Father was a new introduction to The Seven this season, and though Daveed Diggs’s performance was stellar as always, I can’t say we were that attached to him.

Oh, Father died in The Boys’ finale when MM placed a ball gag in his mouth mid sonic scream.

Cindy

Cindy was introduced a few seasons ago, but we barely scratched the surface of her character beyond being bald, scary, and blowing people up.

She’s high on this list because of the sheer brutality of her death. I didn’t see it coming, and Annie was beyond savage.

Frenchie

Frenchie’s death would have been in the top three, but it’s hard to continue loving a character when his actor is wrapped in controversy.

Malchemical and Mister Marathon

Malchemical and Mister Marathon were two of the few somewhat good superheroes. For that reason, and because their episode was an unofficial Supernatural reunion, we had to watch Castiel and Sam die for the 100th time.

It still hurts as much as the first.

Firecracker

Don’t fear, this is not an in defence of Firecracker argument; she was evil, a raging racist, nasty, strange, and did I mention evil?

But you have to give credit where credit is due. Valorie Curry’s performance in her final episode was legendary, so much so that you actually started to feel bad for her.

Glad to see her go, but damn, Valorie almost had me.

Homelander

No one is losing any sleep over Butcher impaling Homelander with a crowbar, but in a metaphorical sense, his death marked the firm conclusion of the series. Five seasons have flown by, and that’s simply it.

Though I won’t defend some of the outright car crashes this season, The Boys has been a WILD ride and I’m sad to see it go.

Butcher

Hot take here: Butcher is a baddie, and people sometimes forget that.

He’s not meant to be lovable or understandable, after all, his wife was sexually assaulted, and he made it all about him. That being said, that iconic British accent has been a staple of our lives for five seasons.

The fact that his death was at the hands of Hughie was even more gutting, especially because there looked like a moment of redemption on the horizon.

RIP.

Terror

Early leaks from the show claimed that Homelander would brutally kill Terror to get into Butcher’s head. That didn’t happen, so after Homelander’s death, we all breathed a sigh of relief.

Then, BOOM. Terror drops dead out of literally nowhere, and Butcher even sheds some tears for his fallen friend.

A-Train

A-Train was our first look into the dark world of superheroes when he killed Hughie’s girlfriend in season one, episode one. Over five seasons, he went on the mother of all character arcs, ending up as a true hero on the side of good.

By the time season five came around, he was beloved, and he eventually sacrificed himself to help the rest of the team get away. It was pure shock value, and it worked.

Quite literally gone too soon.

Yep. It’s done. It’s over. Now, watch as Amazon desperately tries to capture the same magic in random spin-offs after random spin-offs.
