*Warning: spoilers ahead for The Boys season five episode seven and some people may find this content distressing* Ever since the truth about actor Tomer Capone’s past resurfaced, a corner of The Boys fandom is having a tough time feeling bad about his character Frenchie’s death in the penultimate episode. With just one episode of The Boys left to go – ever – the stakes couldn’t be higher. We knew there were going to be some big deaths, and one of them arrived at the end of season five episode seven. Homelander infiltrates their HQ, and Frenchie sacrifices himself in order to save Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). When Homelander enters their homemade uranium cell, Frenchie flips the switch. His death happens off screen, causing some confusion, but it seems Homelander fled after discovering they’d successfully used the uranium to give Kimiko depowering capabilities, while Frenchie dies from the high radiation levels. I’m too attached,” he said. “It’s the longest character I’ve ever had in my career. Frenchie has been there for five seasons, and at the moment it feels too close to watch.” Tomer Capone interview resurfaced Though the interviewer found the moment “touching”, the online community aren’t so forgiving after finding out that Capone – an Israeli actor – served the Israel Defence Forces, having been conscripted in 2004. Capone, now 40 years old, was a soldier before being promoted to squad leader, including during the 2006 Lebanon War. Tomer Capone, Israeli star of The Boys series, casually admitted to taking part in the abduction, beating, looting and harassment of Palestinians during his years in the IDF. byu/Fair_Cow3398 inFauxmoi Notably, last month, a 2016 interview with Ynet surfaced in which Capone admitted to partaking in violence, and it quickly went viral. In a translated version of the interview, Capone said, “In the middle of the night, you enter a family’s house, you’re not aggressive, but the family doesn’t let you get their 18-year-old daughter out easily, and a fight starts. Pushing, cursing, and we tear her apart and drive off. “We arrive, we take her out of the car, she’s handcuffed and I grab her by the arm and she doesn’t struggle, but she lets go of my grip, signaling me to give her a hand more gently. Her eyes are of course covered with flannel. “I bring her into the room, put her in and see eight other girls inside who look more or less the same. And they close the door in your face.” The wider interview also saw Capone speak candidly about the psychological toll his military service had on him. He also criticised the Israeli government. The Boys fans say his character was ‘ruined’ Credit: Prime Video But amid ongoing reports of human rights violations in Palestine, it’s the more troubling elements of the interview and his overall association with the IDF that has caused fans to turn away from him. This topic of conversation has been brought up again in light of Frenchie’s death, with many saying their perception of Capone has impacted how they see the character. Taking to Reddit, one wrote, “So a main character that has been a mainstay since the very beginning dies in the second to last episode of a show running five seasons long and no one even posts about it. “Forget about posts mourning him, no one even gives a sh*t about Frenchie anymore.” Some people argued that this was because his death had been leaked a while back, but another wrote, “I think it was pretty sad, the leaks and the actor being an IDF soldier prolly ruined it for a lot people, me included.” A third added, “He’s been dead to me since I discovered that.” Elsewhere, one rather sarcastically said, “Tomer Capone had to work extra hard to fake the regret in Frenchie’s reaction in this scene. This is a clever reference to the fact that he is not used to regretting his actions against innocents.” Film Shrine has reached out to Tomer Capone and Amazon Studios for comment.
