Between Stranger Things, The Boys, and Outlander, it’s been a helluva year for major TV shows drawing to a close – but the question on everyone’s lips right now is whether Euphoria will follow suit. After such a long wait between instalments, the HBO show barely resembles the teen drama it started out as. The glittery, dream-like aesthetic has been replaced by a Tarantino-style western vibe, while the controversial decision to replace Labrinth with Hans Zimmer has had way more of an impact than we anticipated. Hans Zimmer going to hell for this damn score pic.twitter.com/JwZWWHaABF — bald myha’la (@1800clockit) April 27, 2026 Then there’s the fact that much of the focus has shifted away from Rue (Zendaya) and towards Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) OnlyFans career. And that’s just the half of it, leading to a debate about whether Euphoria has evolved or simply lost the plot. Whatever the case, we keep tuning in every week. Even Euphoria’s harshest critics would struggle to deny the performances remain phenomenal and the visuals are still great (when they’re not making us gag). And despite the delay, the gamble appears to have paid off for HBO. Season three has pulled in massive ratings, reigniting speculation about whether a fourth chapter could eventually happen after all. Now, Sam Levinson himself has addressed the possibility of Euphoria ending with season three and he’s made peace with it either way. Sam Levinson approached Euphoria season three like it’s the last Speaking at Variety’s A Night in the Writers’ Room event in Los Angeles this week, Levinson explained that while it’s not been confirmed whether the third chapter really will be the last, he at the very least approached it in that way. Credit: HBO “For the first season, it was a tough shoot. As I was writing it, I thought, ‘If they never let me come back, will I be happy?’ That’s how I approached season one, and then they let me come back for season two,” he said. “I’ve always done every season like it could be the last season and if the story ended here, would I feel proud? Is it saying what I want it to say? Looking back, I’m really proud of the way this season ends and where we were able to get to. “I’m really excited by it. As a whole, I think we landed the plane in a really beautiful way and so again, I would say if they never let me come back, I’m happy with this.” As for how fans are responding to Levinson’s comments, it’s a mixed bag. Some say that despite all the criticism, season three has been memorable entertainment. “Say what you will about bro, some of the stuff he makes is unquestionable ass, but we talk about it nonetheless,” wrote one. “That’s entertainment, that’s television.” Others don’t believe season four could happen due to Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Zendaya being so in demand. “It’s very hard to get all the lead actors together at the same time,” said another. A third added, “Three seasons is enough for this show and I will die on that hill and I’ve been saying this forever guys.” And then there are fans who think HBO won’t want to let it go. “HBO wants him to come back though – they’re not going to give up their biggest show just like that,” added another. Maybe a spinoff? We’ll see, but until then, we’ve got three more episodes to go – and as we’ve seen so far, anything could happen.
