If there’s one thing I wished I’d known before tuning into Euphoria season three, it’s not to watch with dinner. From balloon gagging to, well, everything Cassie’s up to, Sam Levinson and the writing team have taken shock value to a wild new level. With so many moments already pushing the show into even more unhinged territory, it only feels right to take stock. So, here are the most extreme scenes so far, ranked from shocking to downright gag-worthy. 6. Graphic scene of a chicken being decapitated for no apparent reason Credit: HBO Ngl, I missed this exact moment the first time round and I’m kind of jealous of my former self because it’s grim. In season three episode one, Wayne – the ‘maybe inbred’ working for Laurie – decides to impress Faye by making her a chicken dinner. But this is a farm-to-table type of operation, and his sweet gesture soon turns into a blood bath when he goes out back, grabs a chicken, puts it in a vice, and rips its body clean from its head. Yes, this is the reality of eating meat, but did we really need to see it? That said, it could potentially be foreshadowing what’s to come… 5. Faye’s graphic sex with a literal Nazi flag in the background Credit: HBO Okay, so this scene’s not really one that made me gag in the traditional sense, but it still turned my stomach. Following on from the chicken dinner, season three episode two sees Faye and Wayne hooking up. But this is Sam Levinson we’re talking about, so not only was it notably graphic, but Wayne has a Nazi flag at the head of his bed and a swastika tattoo. Given the lack of character development so far, this horrifying display is utterly gratuitous, adding shock value without really saying anything at all. 4. Paladin the parrot’s death went on for way too long Credit: HBO The end of Euphoria season three episode three involves even more horrifying bird death, this time targeting Paladin, Laurie’s pet parrot. As her and Alamo’s battle rages on, Rue and Bishop pay a visit pretending they’re there for a drug deal. However, when Laurie’s back is turned, Bishop slips the bird some poison. It kicks in at the end, as Laurie’s chilling in front of the TV. Paladin drops from his perch and convulses on the floor of his cage. It’s the sheer length of time that the camera stays on the poor guy that makes this even more horrific, watching him suffering for what feels like an eternity. 3. Cassie as an ‘adult baby’ is still sending shivers down my spine Credit: HBO Cassie’s venture into OnlyFans seems to be a plot device to simply put Sydney Sweeney in various explicit situations, but while most of them can just about be justified, the ‘adult baby’ is unequivocally a step too far. I’m sorry, but there’s pushing boundaries and there’s whatever the hell this is. 2. The poop, oh the poop Credit: HBO The scat fetish theories aren’t coming out of nowhere. In the very first episode of Euphoria season three, Faye has “an accident” while helping Rue out as a drug mule. The scene shows her with defecation dripping down her leg and to top it all off, a dog rocks up and starts licking it off her. Truly, it’s like the writing team tried to think of the most repugnant situation they could and ran with it. But that’s not the end of it, as in episode two, Alamo gets back at Laurie for her “pig” insult by sending one to her house – and the camera gives us a horrific close-up of the animal crapping all over their floor. 1. Rue and Faye gagging on drug-filled balloons is ASMR from hell Credit: HBO Nothing prepared me for the visceral experience that was the scene in which Faye and Rue shove condom-wrapped drug balls down their throats. The retching, the choking, the saliva – it’s like anti-ASMR. At this point, I was ready to call it quits on Euphoria season three, but I got distracted by the next sickening scene… and the next, and the next. All that being said, see you again next week.
