People are starting to worry about the future of XO, Kitty after some rather worrying comments from the cast, so does this mean it’s been cancelled or is Netflix still deciding whether to bring the show back for season 4?

After all their ups and downs, Kitty and Min Ho finally found their way back to each other at the end of XO, Kitty season 3. They ended the season together and headed to Portland, where Min Ho would get the chance to meet Kitty’s family. Kitty has also been accepted into NYU, which could change things for the couple once she finishes school. So, there’s still plenty to explore if the show returns.

But will it return? Here’s everything we know about the show’s future so far.

Has XO, Kitty been cancelled?

No, XO, Kitty has not officially been cancelled. But Netflix has also not renewed the series for a fourth season. The uncertainty has been going on for months. In May this year, Anna Cathcart, who plays Kitty Song Covey, spoke to Us Weekly about the possibility of returning for another season.

She said, “To be honest, it is such a big question mark right now.”

She also explained, “We’re not sure if we’re going to get a season 4 or not. But I think that either way, we’re really proud of season 3, and it was so fun to get to be back with everybody and shoot again.”

Anna added, “Of course, we’d be so lucky and so happy to do a season 4. But we’re still waiting on the answer. I’m also just as anxiously waiting as you are, I promise.”

But why are people worried about season 4?

There are a few reasons why fans are starting to think the series might not return. First, there’s the long wait for a renewal. XO, Kitty season 3 premiered on Netflix on 2 April 2026. It’s been months, and there is still no official announcement about season 4.

The previous renewals happened much quicker. Season 2 was announced in June 2023, less than a month after the first season premiered. Then, season 3 was announced in February 2025, shortly after season 2 arrived in January. This time, things have been much quieter.

Then Anthony Keyvan, who plays Q, has responded to fans on TikTok asking about another season with messages that sound pretty discouraging. He wrote, “It’s not coming…” and “Gonna hold your hand when I say this…”

Could XO, Kitty season 4 actually become a movie instead?

In July, Deadline reported that Netflix and Paramount Television Studios have been discussing the future of XO, Kitty, with two possibilities being considered. One is a fourth season, and two is a feature-length film.

Paramount Television Studios, which produces the series, reportedly extended Netflix’s option on the show. The studio also extended the cast’s options, keeping the actors available in case Netflix decides to order more episodes.

The publication also reported that the conversations involved the creative direction of the story, including whether it should continue as another season or finish with a movie. Neither option has been confirmed, though.

A film could make sense if creator Jenny Han wants to give Kitty and her friends a proper ending without making another full season. Her previous To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before story was told across three films, while The Summer I Turned Pretty is also getting a film to continue its story after three seasons.

So, at the moment, there’s no confirmed release date for XO, Kitty season 4.
