After five seasons and what can only be described as a morally questionable fun time, The Deep came to a not-so-climactic end in The Boys finale. Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford has been in The Boys since season one, and he’s been consistently awful from the get-go. He assaulted Starlight, did unspeakable things to marine creatures, and then committed a cardinal sin: Starting a podcast. As season five of The Boys kicked off, the resounding desire was for Starlight to kill The Deep. It would have been satisfying, but that’s not what happened. Starlight steps up to the plate, using her flight powers to fly the fishy hero out of the White House. Soon enough, they crash land on a beach and blows are exchanged. Starlight gets in a few good shots, but so does The Deep. Finally, Starlight blasts him into the ocean. Credit: Amazon Studios Now, here’s where things get particularly crazy. As you might remember, a shark bearing a striking vocal resemblance to Samuel L. Jackson banned The Deep from the ocean after the oil spill killed millions of fish in Alaska. As it turns out, the ban was real, and sea creatures circle The Deep before an octopus kills him. But The Deep is mega durable? He tanks bullets? How did a fleshy ocotopus even kill him? Credit: Amazon Studios On the surface, The Deep’s death might seem like the most annoying plot hole, but there’s actually a logical explanation for how he died. You see, the octopus tentacle came out of his mouth. Do I really have to spell this out? Thanks to The Boys’ previous demonstrations of orifice-based killing, we know certain areas of the human body are more, let’s say, accessible. Simply put: The tentacle went in his behind and out of his mouth. There. Happy? Though the death is wholly poetic, given The Deep’s long history of molesting sea animals, I can’t help but feel that Starlight should have burned him to ash. Justice for Annie!
