MAFS’ Joel reveals real reason for chaotic wedding speech as he addresses being shamed by mum
He had to ‘confront’ his mum
To say Joel Moses made a chaotic first impression on MAFS Australia would be an understatement, because his wedding speech was nothing short of unhinged.
In a time-honoured MAFS tradition, producers introduced six more people as intruder couples in last night’s episode. Among them was Joel, a model with a rather unique sense of humour.
@e4 We saw an altar, Joel saw an opportunity to perform MAFSAU #MAFS #MarriedAtFirstSight #RealityShow #RealityTV
Bearing in mind that this was his first introduction to his soon-to-be wife, Juliette Chae, Joel came out of the gate with jokes, self-depricating humour, and throwing his finger in the air wayyyy too many times. Then everything started to make sense when Joel’s mother issued an even more jarring speech about her son. It essentially confirmed that he was simply built that way.
Joel has explained his MAFS Australia wedding speech
Speaking to the MailOnline after his speech went viral, Joel rightly pointed out that everyone takes the MAFS weddings so damn seriously. It is a reality TV show, after all.
He explained: “I was a bit concerned watching my wedding back. I remembered the big moments, but everything in between I sort of forgot. It was like experiencing it for the first time again. But honestly, I thought it was a pretty positive screening. I was happy with it at the end.
“It’s a fake wedding. Who cares about the speeches? Everyone is always so serious, copy and paste, cookie cutter, same nonsense. How about let’s just have some fun? Why does it have to be 90 per cent serious and 10 per cent funny? Why can’t it be the opposite?”
He also claimed that production removed some of his more heartfelt comments, but “I wouldn’t change a word. I thought it was hilarious.”
He also talked about his mum

Joel’s mum also went viral for her speech, where she said that he “turned into a gluttonous pig” after being a fussy baby. She also claimed that he still sleeps with a teddy bear and that he often lies in her lap for back scratches. It was pretty humiliating stuff, but he took it in his stride.
“Production had nothing to do with my mother’s speech. She wrote it, they approved it. I didn’t see it beforehand,” he explained.
Joel and his mum also poked fun at the moment on Instagram, recreating a backscratching moment as he captioned the post: “The internet absolutely cooked my mum for this on MAFS… so I had to confront her.”
Something tells me this is only the tip of one chaotic iceberg.
