‘I was scared most of the time’: MAFS UK’s Davide opens up about being homeless at 19
‘I could barely sleep most of the night’
The MAFS UK 2025 groom Davide Anica has shared his experiences of being homeless in Paris when he was 19.
Davide has just become an ambassador for the homelessness charity EveryYouth. He explained why this issue is so important to him.
“I was homeless when I was 19,” he told EveryYouth, “I ended up on the streets because my relationship with my family didn’t go so well when I came out. My wallet got stolen on the Metro in Paris and that had all my money in it. So I had absolutely nothing to go on for a couple of weeks until I got my next paycheck.

Davide showered and brushed his teeth in the bathrooms at his dance school. He mostly ate baguettes and tinned tuna.

Once Davide was paid, he could move into a “shoebox” room. To afford dance school, he worked night shifts at a club and morning shifts at a bakery. He has now reconciled with his father.

For his role as a celebrity ambassador at EveryYouth, Davide met with young people who live in supported accommodation in Surrey.
EveryYouth’s programmes support thousands of young people in the UK with employment, housing and mental health. More than 118,000 young people faced homelessness in the UK last year. EveryYouth estimates the total is actually much higher, as many people do not report being homeless.
