Here’s what you should dress up as for Halloween, based on your Manchester study spot
Here’s how you can go from a day of studying to a night of not being asked ‘who are you supposed to be’?
Central Library – Disney princess

If you’re spending all your time in Central Library, you’re either a sixth former or a born and bred Manchester resident. We’re not sure why more uni students don’t study there, because there’s nothing like watching a bunch of 17-year-olds working harder than you are to motivate yourself.
Because of the sheer number of children here, we reckon that a Disney princess (or prince) is the perfect costume for any Central-lover – you’ll fit right in if you bring a Smirnoff to pres.
John Ryland – Black Swan

John Ryland may be small, but it’s classy and perfect for some Hogwarts-esque study pics to show your hard-working self off. If this is your signature study spot, you need an equally educated costume, so Black Swan is the perfect way to go. It’s elegant and on-theme, just like John Ryland.
Haunt – Witch

You may think we would say ghost for this spookily named cafe, but Haunt is so cool that we needed something with a bit more style. The people who study in Haunt are the same people who have a freelance marketing business and a Vinted side hustle, so you need something that is low-effort to work with your busy lifestyle.
A witch costume may seem basic, but you can dress it up with some layered jewellery and long gloves – the result is incredibly cute but accessible for any uni student who has the most random assortment of clothes in their room and no time to waste on costume shopping. Just order a hat and you’re done.
Chetham’s Library – anyone from Sleepy Hollow
@lindsayyyvolk Happy October 1st! This was my Katrina van tassel costume from last year 🕸️ #halloween #sleepyhollow #timburton #spookyseason #halloweencostume

If you study at Chetham’s then Halloween is YOUR season – you’re not going for sexy or funny costumes, you’re going for something very gothic, and you’ll turn to the classic horror movies for inspiration. Katrina Van Tassel or Ichabod Crane from Sleepy Hollow are the perfect options for you!
MMU Library – clown

Because that’s what you are if you enjoy spending time in that prison.
UoM Main Library – the Lorax

If this is your go-to study spot, then you’re clearly struggling HARD with your dissertation and need those longer opening hours – so when it comes to Halloween, you’re gonna let your hair (or thneed) down and head to 256 dressed as your silliest self.
Seesaw – Mia Wallace
@bellereid_ PULP FICTION SUPREMACY #pulpfiction #miawallace #halloweeninspo
Seesaw is probably the most vibey study spot on this list, and we feel like the people who study here would have the sexy:scary ratio down pat for Halloween. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction is recognisable and not too niche, and is perfect for a Halloween night out in Manchester.
Grosvenor East – bed sheet ghost
@mrs_oconn Just a couple of corporate Ghosties! 👻 #halloween #corporateghost #ghostcostume #icantbetheonlyone #ghosties #ghostphotoshoot #work #coworkerghosts #👻 #👻👻👻 #lovewhereyouwork #corporatelife #officelife #officeghost #sheetghost #sheetghostphotoshoot #halloweenatwork #coworkerswhobecamefriends #workfam #inoffice #october #spooky #spookyseason #spookyszn #ghosties👻 #octoberthings #conferenceroom #loveyourjob
The people who study in Grosvenor East are the people who are never organised enough to try out another spot on campus that’s away from their classes – and no, we’re not counting The Grove in this. They’d put as much effort into their costume as they do into their study schedule, and just drag their bed sheet out on the night out with them.
House of Books and Friends – Paddington Bear
@ems.asf Paddington bear steals the night #foryou #fyp #paddington #halloween2024
♬ Paddington Bear Theme (Overture) – Freddie Williams & The Master Singers & Michael Hordern
You’re obsessed with the pay it forward scheme and love parking yourself in the chatty areas for a yap and not much studying – you deserve nothing less than this adorable icon.
UoM Engineering – the Scooby Doo gang
@rissaengdahl It looks like weve got another mystery on our hands! 😉❤️ #foryou #halloween #scoobydoo #halloweencostume #fyp #girlsnight #besties #fred #pookie #spooky
The people who study here are the social butterflies of their course, so if this is your top study spot, you’ll definitely turn up to the club in a group costume like the Scooby Doo gang. Yes, it’s basic, but you also can’t find anywhere good to study that’s not your own uni campus, so we don’t really expect anything else.
Mala – Sabrina Carpenter

Yes, we’re all still mourning Chapter One Books, but Mala is still a fun place to study with some friends – if you don’t mind not getting any studying done. You’ll need a costume that matches Mala’s obsession with playing blaringly loud music, so a pop star costume is definitely the way to go.
Sabrina Carpenter in her Taste music video is the perfect Halloween-coded outfit for your night out, and all you need is a sports bra and some fake blood.
