Who on earth is Barry on The Kardashians and is he actually dead?

Kourtney told everyone he’d died

During the new episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian’s brand, Lemme, partners up for a workout event with fitness brand, Barry’s. However, she goes around saying she was told owner Barry Jay was dead, and I simply need to know what on earth is going on.

Firstly, Barry is not dead, despite Kourtney being led to believe he was. He is very much alive, and is the owner of Barry’s, which used to be called Barry’s Bootcamp. He first founded the fitness brand back in 1998, in West Hollywood, and there’s over 90 gyms across 14 countries.

Khloe Kardashian, who attended the event, claimed Barry had called her fat for not being able to run back in the day. “This was years and years ago. We were running and I stopped and he said, ‘That is why you are fat.’ I said, ‘That is why I am here,'” Khloe explained.

Khloé didn’t expect Barry to comment on her body, adding, “I was fatter and we were working out. I remember taking a break because I couldn’t run and I remember thinking, ‘That is such a weird way to encourage people.’ That was a different time.”

She continued, “This was 2006 with The Biggest Loser, diet pills and you were allowed to call people fat. We never spoke after that. It was literally the whole exchange.” And as for the death rumour? Well, Kourtney’s assistant, Simon Huck, cleared it all up.

“That was a huge mistake. I can’t believe I started a rumour,” Simon joked, before Kourtney replied, “I hope he isn’t offended.” As for Barry, he still works as a Los Angeles-based instructor, and recently done an interview with Thought Economics in September 2025.

He said: “I would like the financial aspect of my film making to rise to the level Barry’s has reached, but that aside I certainly feel successful as a writer, and director. Now, at the age of nearly 60, I’m teaching myself to edit, and do lots of new things. I love it, it makes me happy.”

Barry also said: “I cannot count the number of times I wished I was dead, or thought about ending my life because it seemed like the ‘nicer’ option. There was a part of me telling me, ‘If you can just hang tough… One day you’ll get out.’ That’s the voice I listened to.”

Back in March, Barry revealed he was recovering from open heart surgery. He wrote: “Turns out our valves have three flaps mine had 2 which made me prone to the aneurysm that I had. It’s all fixed. I am in great care and so many miracles to be grateful for.”
