Netflix’s Outer Banks creator and directer Jonas Pate has allegedly put his hands on a female assistant and shook her and screamed at her whilst the show was filming in Croatia – causing stars Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes to intervene and separate them. Outer Banks is a huge hit teen drama for Netflix and is currently in the midst of filming its fifth and final season. Jonas Pate co created Outer Banks with his twin brother Josh and Shannon Burke, and the mystery teen drama has made household names of its stars like Madelyn Cline. Here’s what we know so far about the allegations that the Outer Banks creator grabbed assistant and how the stars of the show had to intervene.
What is going on!?
Outer Banks is shooting its fifth and final season in Dubrovnik, Croatia – and the show is in its first week of filming. On Wednesday 22nd October, TMZ alleges there was a physical confrontation on set where Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate got physical with a female production assistant and Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes had to step in.
In a quote to PEOPLE, a source said Jonas Pate “was screaming at the female production assistant and grabbed her by her shoulders and shook her. He didn’t hurt her or try to hurt her. He just crossed a line. Putting your hands on someone is never, ever okay.”

In the original TMZ article, the publication alleges “tensions were high” on set before things escalated. TMZ also says it was Chase Stokes who stepped in and separated Jonas Pate from the assistant whilst Madelyn Cline tried to de-escalate everything and cal, people down. TMZ also claims it wasn’t “unusual behaviour” from Jonas Pate, as well as one source saying “It’s about time that it’s made public.”
Regarding the final season of Outer Banks, it is currently set to air some time in 2026. Jonas Pate previously told Netflix’s Tudum about the final season in June “We are over the moon to be setting out on one last trip with the Pogues. Being back on set with our cast for this final round is nothing short of bittersweet and surreal. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store this season — it’s going to be a wild ride.”
