‘I got one on my shoe’: Students react to bizarre Halloween spiders crawling Nicolson Street
What’s scarier, the queue for Subway on a Tuesday, or these spiders?
Students heading to Edinburgh Uni’s central campus are used to scary surprises (I would check your deadline dates if I were you), but few were expecting to be met by a strange swarm of spiders spread across Nicolson Street.
The (fake) creepy crawlies are scattered across the pavement between Specsavers and Sainsbury’s on Nicolson Street, a busy main road through the southside of Edinburgh.
As if the prospect of a Lidl trip at 5pm wasn’t bad enough, Tom, a second year English Literature student, expressed his annoyance at the spooky suprise, saying one even got “stuck to my fucking shoe” as he was walking by the busy Surgeons Hall bus stop.
The route is heavily used by students and locals, featuring many bus routes to the city centre and Cameron Toll shopping centre, as well as close proximity to the Main Campus and various student hot-spots like Pear Tree, Southsider and Potterrow.
Khushi, a fourth year Social Anthropology student saw the humour in the wee beasties, telling The Tab Edinburgh: “I saw one and thought it was an early Halloween prank, but then they kept on popping up [along the street] and I was just left confused.”
While posing no danger to the public (apart from a potential slip risk), the spiders continue to attract baffled looks from passers by.
