Everyone’s suddenly in Group 7 on TikTok — here’s what it really means and how to find your group
Hurray! I’m in Group 7 too
TikTok just can’t go five minutes without inventing something new, and this week, it’s all about Group 7. The entire app has decided that this random group is the place to be.
Everyone from actual celebs to brands like Oreo and Sainsbury’s is proudly declaring themselves “Group 7 baddies.” So, what on earth does it mean? And how do you find out which group you’re in?
So, what even is Group 7?
It all started a few days ago when musician Sophia James decided to promote her new song So Unfair with a little experiment. She posted seven TikToks in one night, each one saying something like, “If you’re seeing this, you’re in Group [insert number here].”

But then the internet collectively decided that Group 7 (the last video she posted) was the elite one. The “cool” group.
Before long, Group 7 wasn’t just a random TikTok test, it became a lifestyle.
But why is everyone suddenly obsessed?
Because, as usual, TikTok loves turning literally anything into an identity.
Sophia’s Group 7 video exploded, like, millions more views than the others, and people instantly ran with it.
Celebs started announcing their membership. Madelyn Cline posted, “Good morning Group 7 baddies, how we doing?” while Naomi Osaka literally said life’s been better since she found out she’s in Group 7. Even Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank joined in.

Then brands got involved. Oreo commented, “I’m so happy to be here,” and HBO Max joked about “judging Groups 1–6.”
So, how do you know which group you’re in?
Technically, it depends on which of Sophia’s seven videos shows up on your FYP first. That’s your “group.”

But since Group 7’s video is the one that went viral, most people only ever see that one. Which makes it feel meant to be.
So if you’ve seen Sophia’s “Group 7” TikTok, congratulations, you’re officially in the club. And if you haven’t yet, maybe the algorithm’s just being a hater.

And now, there’s even a real meet-up happening. Sophia actually organised a Group 7 meet-up in London this Friday. It’s happening at The Bedford Pub in Balham at 7 pm, and people might actually be going.
All in all, Group 7 doesn’t mean anything deep, it’s just one of those random TikTok things that everyone gets way too invested in for a week before we move on. But for now, it’s the internet’s favourite inside joke.
