The Perfect Neighbor: Watch the full Susan Lorincz court hearing here, and it’s eye opening
She cried as she sat in court
The full sentencing hearing that took place during the court case for Susan Lorincz is on YouTube – and it’s eye opening. Her crimes are back being spoken about, as Netflix has released documentary film, The Perfect Neighbor.
Susan Lorincz shot and killed her neighbour, Ajike “AJ” Owens, who was a Black woman and mother-of-four. Ajike was killed by a single shot, fired through Lorincz’s closed and bolted front door. Lorincz argued she “feared for her life” but bodycam footage from countless police visits showed the relentless hatred Lorincz had for the local children, and her admittance of using racial slurs.
Susan Lorincz was convicted in August 2024 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, in November 2024. She is now serving her time at the Homestead Correctional Institution in South Florida.

The final parts of her court case have been uploaded to YouTube, and the three hour video is there for anyone to watch. In the hearing, the defence called up members of Lorincz’s family, her friends and a local pastor to give evidence, and talk about how much of a “nice” person she was.
In court, Susan was described as a “very kind and generous” person. She was called a “good friend” with a “big heart”. A further witness called her “kind and loving”. There was a breakdown of the “difficult” childhood Lorincz and her sister had, including abuse at the hands of their father.
Another witness described their shock and said the shooting was “out of her character”. The pastor added “this is not the person we know” and noted it had “sent shockwaves through the church”.

She said her “reasoning” ahead of the incident was: “My medical disabilities. I’ve had 25 knee surgeries on my right knee and ended up having multiple replacements and then a catastrophic failure due to an allergy. I went back to have another replacement, and I was burned during surgery, so I had gotten very ill, and my knee literally goes backwards.”
Lorincz listed off a whole bunch of other medical issues she was suffering with at the time, and claimed Ajike had been “terrorising” her.
She did later apologise, and said: “To AJ’s mom, children, and friends, it is with a heavy heart and great remorse I write this letter to you. First and foremost, I am so sorry that I took AJ’s life. I never intended to kill her the night I shot the gun. I was confused as to why she was screaming and pounding on my door.”
Lorincz added: “Nothing I can do will change the outcome. I can only tell you I have cried, and I feel horrible for my actions. Please accept my humble and sincere apology for this tragedy.” She was then sentenced.
