WhatsApp is levelling up messaging on both iOS and Android with a range of new features that make chats more expressive, organised, and fun. Whether you enjoy sharing moving pictures or keeping your group chats under control, this update has something for everyone.

Here is everything you need to know about all six new WhatsApp features in one place.

1. Live and motion photos

Starting now, you can share Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android. These are not your regular pictures, they include a little movement and sound, making them like sending a tiny video. They are perfect for when a regular photo does not fully capture a moment.

To send one, simply open a chat, tap the attach button, and select your Live or Motion Photo. Your friends will be able to enjoy it exactly as you captured it, without the need for extra apps.

2. Custom chat themes with Meta AI

Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced chat themes to help you personalise your conversations. Now, with Meta AI, you can take your creativity further by generating custom chat themes tailored to your style. If you want a theme that matches your mood or aesthetic, Meta AI can help you create it.

4. Stickers, stickers, stickers

As someone who uses stickers a lot, this one is so fun. WhatsApp has added some new sticker packs, including Fearless Bird, School Days, and Vacation. These are ideal for when words are not enough and you want your chats to express exactly how you are feeling.

5. Find that group chat fast

Ever forget the name of a group chat? WhatsApp now allows you to search for a group by looking up someone in it. Type a friend’s name, and WhatsApp will show you all the groups you share. This means no more digging through dozens of oddly named chats.

6. Android gets document scanning

Android users now have the ability to scan, crop, save, and send documents directly within WhatsApp. This removes the need to switch between apps to share a contract, homework, or receipt. iPhone users already have this feature, so enjoy the Android upgrade.
